Goodbye, Mexico

After 8 incredible months in Mexico, it's time for our final adventure in this beautiful country. We're leaving San Cristobal de las Casas and heading toward the Mexico/Guatemala border, but before we make the crossing, we have one more day of adventures lined up in Chiapas.

Just a two hour drive from San Cristobal de las Casas is a city called Comitan, which is our home base for a couple of nights as we explore two more of the natural wonders the state of Chiapas is known for. On the way to Comitan, we stop for yet another amazing Mexican meal and make friends with some locals before arriving at our Comitan Air BnB.

The next day, we start off strong by visiting El Chiflon waterfalls. In the dry season, El Chiflon is known for having turquoise blue water and being a great place to go for a dip, but we visited in rainy season, so the falls were not turquoise but were absolutely roaring! Another perk to visiting in off-season is that there weren't very many people at El Chiflon - we often felt like we had the place to ourselves!

The best part of El Chiflon is how close to the main waterfall you can get. With the falls bellowing water thanks to the recent rains, we totally drenched. Evie had the best time running around the river system, but wasn't the hugest fan of the Velo de Novia platform 😅

After the waterfall we made our way to an unnamed road and put our faith in Google Maps to make our way to Chukumaltik Cenote. Neither of us has ever visited a cenote before, so maybe they're all this beautiful, but we were blown away by this stunning natural formation. The crystal clear water, pristine environment, and ample sticks to chase were the perfect ending to our time in Mexico.

If you choose to support us in this way, THANK YOU so much!

======================

Hey there! We are Nicole and Mico and in March 2021, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and began traveling the world! We never thought we'd be making travel vlogs on YouTube, but after realizing that we had a unique opportunity to share our adventure and make the world feel more familiar and inviting to anyone watching, we took the leap and picked up the camera! We hope our videos show how wonderful, delicious, and friendly the world can be.

Guys! Thank you so much for sharing your journey! Mexico is amazing, and I’m so happy I can take some of your tips. Just watching you inspire me a lot, you are so fun, smart, and easy going. I love that you show traveling vlogs as real people, who really enjoy that, not just to show off. Good luck with your next country!

The waterfalls area was like where you went in Argentina. With every excursion you are going to more and more beautiful places. That water was crazy clear, and your footage from the drone above the water with Nicole floating looked like something from a travel company advertisement.

That happens all the time to us in Mexico (my adult son and I)... Mexican people get all excited to 1) practice their English on us 2) find out what we think of their town/why we're here/where we came from 3) tell us all about either their time spent in the U.S. or about family living there.

How beautiful the waterfalls are. I didn't know them yet. They're going on my list. Mexico and Guatemala were the beginning of my passion for traveling. There was a lot of conflict in Chiapas in the 90s. Are you also going to Xela/Quetzaltenango in Guatemala? I'm so curious to hear what you think of Guatemala.

Rainy season in Mexico and Guatemala = Dengue season. Trust me, still recovering from it here in Oaxaca. I was laid up most of August.
