Vintage Rose in Gouache Beginner Tutorial
Today I will paint a rose in gouache paint. Gouache is an opaque watercolor that dries quickly but can be reworked if desired. It is a very versatile medium that can mimic the look of acrylic, casein or tempera, and you can use any of those paints to recreate today's lesson!

Supplies:
Small synthetic brushes (flats, filberts, rounds)
Gouache (I am using the LUKAS brand set of 12 I got at Jerry's Artarama for $6.99 and I use red and yellow M Gram Gouache but use whatever paint you like, even watercolor crayons will work well)
Surface: I am using a scrap of mat board (left over from picture framing) but stiff paper will work too

Tips:
Unused paint can be reused, simply spray your palette about 10 minutes before you start painting and it will work great!

You can rework an area even after the paint is dry, simply use a clean damp flat brush to smooth and blend an area.

Gouache can be used over watercolor paintings to correct mistakes or add dimension.

Great video Lindsay! 😆 If you don't care for acrylics then don't do them!! I think the gouche came out great, easily transferable techniques to acrylic, and you are happier with them; which is the most important thing. 🤗 Do what makes you happy because like you said you can't make everyone happy. If some people don't like this, well that is on them. There are plenty of acrylic painters on youtube, you do you!

Really pretty painting. And I agree with those who've said if you don't like acrylic painting then don't do them There's plenty out there.

I realize I am late here... But I want to tell you how much I appreciate how you talk through while showing at the same time. It's really helpful to have both.

Love the bit blending with the filbert. I am thinking about trying gouache instead of acrylic because of the re-wetting aspects. I like that I could lay down paint with a minimum of planning. Also, I like that I won't have to "save" light spaces like with watercolors. Thank you so much for demonstrating. You are the only utuber my ADD allows me to watch, and listen to. Love your voice, too.

This is a wonderful painting, Lindsey. I, too, am interested in gouache and just ordered a very basic 5-color set of M. Graham gouache paints. I've tried a bit of watercolor and frankly find the medium difficult to use. I'm hoping gouache will feel more natural to me. Thanks for all your different videos. I appreciate them and you so much.

The largest flower looks like a Peone, to me. The leaves looks great, really natural with views of the underside and the variety of color in the veining. Thank you for sharing.

I love my gouache, I also mix it with water colour paint, it gives the gouache a less mat look. I also enjoy painting with both oils and acrylic. So any tutorials you may do would be great. Art is no different to anything else in this world. Technics change, new products arrive. As well as new ideas. I like your painting, very vintage looking. Happy new year! X

I bought the HIMI gouche set of 24 colors and I like it. I’m not used to painting with it but I like the result. I did a colored pencil md Aqua background to the edges of my tape and it gave it a super clean finish.

Such a pretty picture!! I try to paint something every day, even if it is just a little freehand sketch of my dogs. Your tutorials appear very often in my journal and most days I am either doing one or doing my own take-off of something I've learned from you! I have some of the M Graham gouache tubes, but haven't used them much - just for touch-ups on other WC works. This tutorial will definitely feature in my journal this week!! Thanks!!!
