This album will go down as one the most underappreciated albums in the band's discography and of the 2010s. I can't wait to see the retrospective ratings for this album in 10 years.

Alex: “I’m not the kind of fool who’s gonna sit and sing for you about stars girl”

This album is a fucking masterpiece. It makes me feel forgotten, floating deep in outer space. The lyrics are unlike anything I've ever seen before, all the experimentation throughout the music, it's just hard to explain how this makes me feel. It's beutiful in a new way.

Been following the monkeys since their first album.
I am the same age as Alex Turner and
for every new album they drop
I keep relating to the things he writes.
Damn. Fucking Genius.

[Verse 1]
I just wanted to be one of The Strokes
Now look at the mess you made me make
Hitchhiking with a monogrammed suitcase
Miles away from any half-useful imaginary highway
I'm a big name in deep space
Ask your mates but golden boy's in bad shape
I found out the hard way that here ain't no place for dolls like you and me
Everybody's on a barge floating down the endless stream of great TV
1984, 2019

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s
Rocket-ship grease down the cracks of my knuckles
Karate bandana
Warp speed chic
Hair down to there
Impressive moustache
Love came in a bottle with a twist off cap
Let's all have a swig and do a hot lap

[Chorus]
So who you gonna call?
The martini police?
Baby that isn't how they look tonight, oh no
It took the light forever to get to your eyes

[Verse 2]
I just wanted to be one of those ghosts you thought that
You could forget and then I haunt you via the rear view mirror on a long drive from the back seat
But it's alright cause you love me
And you recognise that it's ain't how it should be
Your eyes are heavy and the weather's getting ugly so pull over
I know the place
Don't you know an apparition is a cheap date?
What exactly is it you've been drinking these days?
Jukebox in the corner
Long hot summer
They've got a film up on the wall and it's dark enough to dance
What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner?

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Maybe I was a little too wild in the 70s
Back down to earth with a lounge singer shimmer
Elevator down to my make believe residency
From the honeymoon suite
Two shows a day, four nights a week
Easy money

[Chorus]
So who you gonna call?
The martini police?
So who you gonna call?
The martini police?
Baby that isn't how they look tonight
It took the light absolutely forever to get to your eyes

[Outro]
And as we gaze skyward, ain't it dark early?
It's the star treatment
And as we gaze skyward, ain't it dark early?
It's the star treatment
It's the star treatment
The star treatment

This album is like an aged fine wine, marvellous

Edit: Nobody get it what I'm trying to say, It's not literally, what I meant the genre of this song and the whole album, it's feels kinda old and vintage in a good way like an aged fine wine.

When I heard this song live, it was in a middle of this summer, the evening was really hot and it started raining. The crowd was so huge, that only the upper part of my body was wet and from waist down I was completely dry. I remember smoking a cigaret with wet fingers and water dripping down from my hair and the sky was grey a this song was this fantastic background to my small world at the moment. Most magical atmosphere.

I remember last summer I was obsessed with this album and now that I’m heading towards my last year of high school, I will forever say this is one of my favorite bands because of how much they change. It’s a great representation of how we all change for the good and the bad. I turn these songs all the way up because that’s how it should be heard. I just love this band so much and I wanted to make an appreciation post, hope everybody is having a good day today. And if not, just turn up the volume to the songs in this album and relax and forget about everything. Let yourself be engulfed in these beautiful songs... bye bye for now.

This album it's so weird, too much experimental, weird lyrics, weird structure, and i just cant stop listening to it, love it

Imagine you inside in an old mansion, drinking a tea, raining outside and listening to this album

Such an elegant song. From the panned, analogue sounds, passing through the slow, sexy rhythm, arriving to the always magnificent lyrics from Alex Turner, that in a prosaic way shares a complex mix of feelings... I like where these Monkeys are going and I wanna be there too.

I came from twitter cuz I saw a lot of people were saying this album sucks and I find this beautiful piece of art and I'm like ??? this songs have some jazz vibes and a bit of a 70's atmosphere and the vocals are on point I just don't see what is it that people don't like about it.

star treatment is one of my fav arctic monkeys songs and this album is just incredible. im so thankful arctic monkeys are brave enough & talented enough to experiment with themselves they're still such an exciting band even after existing for 18 years

"I'm not the kind of foul how's gonna sit and sing to you, about stars, girl." Then again "and as we gaze skyward, ain't it dark early, it's the star treatment."

The lyrics in this one are weirdly brilliant. Alex really wanted to say a lot in this album. Love the catchy melodies in the chorus and Alex's more frequent use of his falsetto. Feel like this album is a grower.
