If Grenfell isn't the perfect example of Rightwing politics being a force for evil then I don't know what is. The Tories must never be allowed to govern again.

Jan 18 1981 13 black children died in a house fire, in Newcross road south london, 13 dead norhing said,
when i threw myself from that burning house landing in the basement, hitting my skull, the screams i will never forget,
the fire engulfed that house so quick, was there building materials used that caused that rapid spread ?
This was 43 years ago

To think that in my lifetime i would see unfolding the Grenfell tragedy after my own trauma, so many years after that claimed so much more lives is beyond comprehension, these survivors, those who lost loved ones will be forever in trauma,
The worse not accepting culpability when your failings caused this nightmare, and attempting to cover up,
Grenfell survivors your pain and your losses will be forever entrenched and felt forever, bless you all.

Jeremy Corbyn is an honest man who wants better for our citizens, particularly the most downtrodden. His resilience and optimism in delivering this message, despite the widespread, media-exaggerated opposition to this hardly revolutionary hope, is awe-inspiring. The cornerstone of functioning democracy is honesty. Without it, everything ultimately fails. Corbyn is honest. He cares. Yet so many vote against their interests, electing apathetic or complicit dead-eyed suits who are there chiefly for their personal enrichment, . Zahawi springs instantly to mind.

Grenfell: I was awake all night in my Chelsea hotel room from sirens .. following afternoon drove past, unintentionally. The immeasurable heat still rippling between the cladding, with horizontal spikes of flame escaping from the odd construction joint - it was a scene I'll never forget. In the developing world, it is the local building code often blamed for damage and loss of life during natural disasters. Whether a tower block, a school made of low-cost concrete, or terraced estate susceptible to mold, the UK must abandon third-world construction shortcuts, and punish code violators to the fullest extent of the law.

Anyone still living in high-risk (dangerous) properties should all stop paying rent until they are made safe. I suspect they would be significantly more motivated to act with haste!

And people like Farage, Tice, Reece-Smug etc etc advicating for even *less* regulation across a number of sectors.

Wicked, greedy and incompetent…and people are still arguing about who should pay to have the same cladding removed from their homes. It beggars belief.😡

I was a postgrad student living in the Southwest, and studying at UCL. I remember arriving in London late, staying in Earls Court YHA. At breakfast there was a pervasive smell of burning and I couldnt understand where it came from. Switching on the mornings breakfast news, it was Grenfell 2 miles away. Horrific. RIP the 72. Love to the families. I knew I had to do something to voice my anger and so joined the first Justice for Grenfell march two days later.

Not so much the lack of importance for social housing but lack of value of human beings to have safe shelter as a right and not a privilege for the profit of the few.

Don't forget the absence of Theresa May not even bothering to go for days

I appreciate that they (mostly) didn't use the teaser music during this more solemn and serious episode.

Am I the only one who hasn't got enough trust in our justice system to actually bring all that were involved in this terrible avoidable disaster to justice ? I for one do not. There will be some scapegoats for sure ? One of the companies involved is still in receipt of government contracts, and the building regulations that allow the dangerous cladding to be installed haven't been abolished ? Our present PM will no doubt offer his continued sympathy and prayers, but he along with many other MPs, Ministers kept kicking this bill into the long grass, until the inevitable happened. I hope to be proven wrong and our justice system actually delivers justice to the families and the victims of this appalling tragedy.

Check out Oxford hospital cladding. My Dad says the same panels. There's other buildings! I need to listen to the rest to see what they're going to do about that!

"It happened in one of the wealthiest boroughs"

Of course there was no official help. The council viewed grenfell as a blot in their perfect leafy suburb.

I feel this is going to be a coverup too.

What's so heart-wrenching is that tragedies like this are preventable, but those with the power to look after those who trust them to have their best interests in mind are far too often consumed by greed and self-interest. People should pay for this, there should be repercussions.

This reminds me in a vague way of the housing market collapse in 2008. The banks and lenders were at fault and ruined the lives of countless people, but the common media narrative was blaming the borrowers. Grenfell revealed the same kind of victim blaming while those responsible get to walk away unscathed.

I watched the fire develop live on TV by accident I was doing something late and decided to put the news on in the background something I never do. and I just couldn't believe the stay put advice as the fire shot up the first side of the building in seconds .

What I find interesting is that the new government punishes MPs who stand up for children's rights and yet ignores a slum landlord in their midst. I fear the new government is much the same as the last.
