I was having a heck of a time breaking the compacted snow and ice off my driveway and sidewalks. This method worked great. Thanks for the tip!

Hey Rob, just wanted to say thanks for the great tip! I picked up a spading fork from Lowe’s and it helped a great deal in getting my triple driveway cleared immediately after the latest ice storm. Very thankful to have come across your video

Thanks for posting this Rob! I was racking my brain all night trying to engineer a tool to help with compacted snow. I started a landscape company last year and I’m learning many things through trial and error. This is a problem I run into with my snow removal services. Most driveways take about 20-30 minutes but then I’ll show up to one thats been driven on several times and walked on and it can take me over 2 hours! My back hurts so bad today from hacking at one particularly bad property. I cant wait to try this out, I know its gunna work. I was thinking of something similar yesterday but I had thought about trying a regular hayfork. This looks way more effective.

I don't know why I was looking at this last summer, but I was, and found it fascinating. When the snowplows come through, I can't get out of my driveway, and the shoveling job is grueling. I ran out and got a pitchfork from the local Farm & Fleet and waited. We got about 8 inches of snow yesterday, which means that the plows going through left about a foot of packed-down snow and ice at the end of my driveway. Took the pitchfork and the shovel out of the garage, and had at it. Long story short, banging that compacted snow with the pitchfork did the trick. It took maybe ten minutes to clear it, and I'm not exhausted when I'm done. THANK YOU - I couldn't have done it without you.

I just wanted to drop a message and say this actually WORKS! I went to the hardware store and bought a digging fork for under $30 and it is breaking through EVERY SINGLE BIT of compacted snow and ice WITH EASE! Thank you sooo so much for this tip. You, sir, are a legend in my household 🙌 👏 🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️

Thank you, thank you Sir!!! After watching your video I ran to the tools shop got me one of these, and was able to break clean all the driveway ice!!! It even helped support a neighbour with a car stuck on ice! Karma points to you 😊👍

I’m definitely going to buy one of those to keep for next winter we had a lot of ice this past winter.

More force over less area; great idea! I love the old school ones with thick metal.

I love the idea of using the pitchfork.to remove ice. Thank you for sharing. Please be careful of falling ice from the rooftop.

Great idea, I never thought of it, but that is a potato fork, a pitch fork has linger thinner tines.

I will have to try this as White Out Snow Removal in Winnipeg either skips shovelling driveway if a car is parked on it and if there isnt a car on it gets skipped so now has huge snow bumps even though ive complained and sent pics and looks like its me having to clean that area looks faster then a regular shovel. Great video thanks for the tip 😊

Worked really well. With 10” fresh snow, and the 1degree temps, I will be next up to try this.

Thank you for this. Great idea --- trying today. For some unknown reason the City is no longer plowing our street. It's a huge mess, but probably not after today!!! (at least I'll clear the road in front of my house, where the stop sign is, lol!)

Thanks for great idea !!! 60" slate bar (see other youtube video on it) or 2nd best 60" pry bar for really thick stuff hammer and chisel to get it started if hard 3" thick or so. The slate bars sharp as heck point and heavy 14lbs + gravity penetrates like heck. Watch your feet !!! or the pry bar. Then this is a great way to finish it off once it is loose.

Sounds like you need a hardhat out there. Thanks for posting this. Obviously it's still helping people.

Awesome! The snow in the alley behind my driveway compacts into frozen ruts, so my little old Camry gets stuck there when I drive out. Not anymore; potato pitchfork to the rescue!

I am going to consider a fork. I break up the ice, remove anything I can with a snow shovel and then sweep vigorously and from then on as long as we don't get ice again it is easy to keep clean. This is the first time in years our building has not had to buy salt when a storm came through. I think a transfer shovel would also help us since we dig out a lot of cars. In the past we paid someone to put down a beet juice mixture but we opted out this year. Thanks for the tips.
