Adam thoroughly reviews the inline microphone preamplifier from sE Electronics. Does it bang or is it a dud?
Full disclosure: On January 31, 2019 Adam was told that he could keep the DM1.

During the FreqAnalyst tests I did use a clean gain (BlueCat's gain suite) to more exactly match the recorded material. I was very impressed by how close the DM1 was to the material that did not have the DM1 engaged.

BTW, to get consistent audio level while testing a mic is to play the same audio via a speaker, with the mic pointing to the speaker, add the variation and play the same audio again. Since the audio generation and capture has not changed, the difference will be measured.
Hope that helps for future tests. You don't need any assistant unless you want one :P

I wonder if people would get scared of me using this thing LOL. Very good preamp.

Btw, I saw some aliasing there when you showed the frequency sweep.

You should ask someone like uad or presonus to send you one of there interfaces with digitally controlled pres so you have exact values. Besides that im impressed its very clean gain and helps prevent you from maxing the interfaces gain. I do wish it passed phantom power but i get why ot does not

how important would you say is having it plugged in directly into the mic vs in your preamp/interface

Hi Adam! Hope you had a Merry Christmas and wish you and your family a Happy New Year.

Getting the studio back rolling and was wondering how these would work on dynamic drum mics. I bought a shure 7 piece mic drum kit. And I heard these are unusable on loud sources. I prefer not to go and buy a clouldlifer rack. I would need to get a additional channel and cables to hook it up.

This would be a cheaper option.

Using a Focusrite Thunderbolt 8x pre with air preamp features.

Thanks Adam!

I need to turn on "Phantom power" on my interface when DM1 is plugged to my Sm58 or not?

Different cable lengths Great Video. The cable lengths would most likely make more of a difference if the distance from the Microphone to the preamp was greater. Dont know that it makes that much difference with greater distance from the mixer to the preamp.

Just curious why you refer to your videos in 3rd person perspective i.e. "Adam tests" instead of "I tested".

Really like this product and it's neck to neck with the regular Fethead. A small (or potentially big) nuisance for us outside of the US trying to have this delivered, it just might run into hilarious problems with customs. Customs inspector would be like "WTF is in this box!!!??? Tax the hell out of the guy who ordered this. This isn't funny!"

Instead of an assistant, just use a pop filter to measure your distance
