Audi SQ5 Sportback 2022 review | new GLC43 and X4 M40i rival tested | Chasing Cars

We test the new Audi SQ5 Sportback and see what this sporty coupe SUV is like to drive.

The Audi Q5 has been late to the coupe-SUV trend but this German luxury brand has now done it. You can buy a range of Q5 Sportback models in Australia capped by the 251kW / 336 hp SQ5 TDI Sportback, which uses a 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 plus a strong 48-volt mild hybrid system.

But is the Sportback the right SQ5 to buy for 2022?

The SQ5 TDI Sportback competes with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe and the BMW X4 M40i, both of which use petrol engines instead.

Gotta love an Audi design and sound. Personally, I think they nail the sports luxury segment by a strong margin

For a parent of two 6ft high schoolers, I appreciate that they can fit comfortably in the back seat, without ducking their heads.

Agree, the “coupe” version while not an ugly vehicle it’s not as well resolved as the Q3 and Q8 and I also agree it should really have ventilated seats at this cost. All that said though a really nice vehicle 👍🏼

I’d take the wagon version every time. This is just a tad odd looking plus I’m just not into SUV’s or variants. If money was no object give me an RS6 wagon.😍🤤 Good review again Ponch.👍🏼

Lovely car Ponch, I like the Sportback, but my wife is a wagon girl. I take your point but I could live with it. I don't like those free standing media screens and would rather see an integrated screen and metal inlays are, to me, nicer than faux carbon. Despite that it's a very desirable car and I think that it's good value. It looks stunning, goes hard, but should have a 5 year warranty. Comprehensive review as usual. Thanks

I thought the ashtray looking tray was where you put your key. A lot of other cars are doing this now

Are the tyres Pirelli PZero PZ4? Also....ponch calling $121k family SUV "affordable" goes to show whats happened to car pricing in covid. Everything has gone up 20%. :(

Honestly, i wont mind either this or the wagon but aesthetically speaking, this looks cooler than the wagon but has reduced space.
As long as is a(n) (S)Q5, i' m sold. This is my dream car

Just starting to see some SQ5 Sportbacks in Sydney roads and personally I think they look sensational just like the RSQ3.

I have the petrol varient of the SQ5 2018. It has been a good car for the family in general. Boot space has been ok for shopping and a pram. With 2 child seats in the back we struggle getting an adult in the middle. Maybe a very small one but still not comfortable. With our daughter still in a rear facing seat she has to sit behind the passenger otherwise I cannot move the drivers seat to my position. I can sit in the passenger seat for only short journeys when my wife is driving (I am 6ft). The interior I loved in 2018 but is starting to look a bit dated now in my opinion. It felt pretty quick at first, then it becomes very normal. The lag is pretty bad, especially when trying to pull quick from a junction/rounderbout. It doesn't fill me with confidence unless Im in S mode. I was really disappointed with this update. The interior looks pretty much identical to my 2018 SQ5. I am a big Audi fan, I have driven them for years. I was hoping the updated SQ5 was going to be special. Secretly hoping over the last few years that Audi might have some balls and bring out an RSQ5. Instead they went back to diesel!🤦‍♂️ I have recently ordered my SQ5's replacement. And after much research I went for the new X4M Competition. I feel like I have been unfaithful ordering the BMW as its replacement. But if I'm being objective (and I think I can as an Audi owner) the X4M is a far more superior car then the current diesel SQ5 ( I'm comparing the most powerful Q5 to the most powerful X4) before you say its not its "direct" rival. If Audi would have been brave with an RSQ5 I might have gone for it. Although I did have a look at an RSQ3 and that was massively underwhelming. Just my opinion as an SQ5 owner. Great video by the way👍

How does this stack up against the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce or the QV?

I liked the roof line more practical interior as well

These Sportback fads look ridiculous. You are 100% correct Nathan, the wagon looks better. WAY better.

Would you buy this or a top spec 100K Genesis GV70? I know it is German but what price is the badge worth?

Red interior looks great. Now watch everyone buy black .

Wagon are always cooler in my book. Love the Audis though.

VW and Skoda offer 5 year warranties, Audi need to step up there for sure.

Why no integrated info screen? Q3 gets it
