Reddit is one of the most popular social media sites with subreddits for every interest, sports team, video game and even nations.

r/UnitedKingdom is a place where the subjects of his majesty gather to complain about the state of our grand nation. On the surface it seems fairly liberal - but post a daily mail article about immigrants and the real face of Britain shows itself

r/UnitedKingdom thinks Britain is one of the most tolerant places on earth and all Albanians are criminals - doesn't seem to fit together 😂

"The UK is the least racist place in the UK." Seems about right.

The British ended the slave trade because it was no longer economically viable and not for any humanitarian reasons.

As an American, this subreddit is giving way too much credit to the average Biden voter. We aren’t taught anything about the nuances of the conflict in Ireland in school or in media here. Joe is definitely not just saying those things to fire up the base, the media isn’t even really covering his trips to the UK.

The first country to ban slavery was Haiti, and the first European country to ban slave trade was Denmark. The UK's contribution to abolition wouldn't have been so "instrumental" if they weren't such a gigantic players in the business in the first place.

Good point about British racism being practically inseparable from xenophobia, I always say we're so racist we can be racist about people from the next town over, though that's technically xenophobia really innit

All of the "not royalist" simping for the queen was hilarious.

As an American, I always get pissed off when Europeans think racism is just an American thing. Like a few years ago, the Dutch were called out for their racist parade of “Black Pete” and I saw so many defend it, and say that its not racist because they aren’t American. I’ve seen that shit so much, it boggles my mind

I was in Ireland when Elizabeth died, it was a very interesting experience. I was getting flooded with news of it from back home in Australia, my English friend was doing live streams crying about it and beying for the blood of the anti monarchists, while the Irish were either indifferent or so elated they were chanting "Lizzie's in a box!" at sporting events.

The only reason the UK even ended Slavery is because doing wage slavery in the homeland and indentured servitude in the colonies was easier.

English people: we ended slavery. We're so kind, so wise.
Also English people: subjugates several African countries, wages bloody war against them when they try to win their independence.

Do they just not teach people about Kenya? That wasn't that long ago. People who survived that war are still alive. Some of them are your cuddly little grandparents. How many Kenyan kids did they kill, hm? How many people on your street fondly remember Rhodesia? But hey. You "ended slavery." Right. Boogie.

That subreddit is like the embodiment of "I'm not racist but..."

the idea of Britain being so responsible for ending slavery is pretty misleading. while we did decide that the air in England is free and any who breathe it are free we didn't exactly put political pressure on other countries or criminalise slave owners. because our entire power structure were hugely profiting off slavery at the time and still owned many slaves abroad.

I like how people hear reparations and think we're gonna shake down big Reg from down the pub and not large companies and the aristocracy in order to fund reparations.

"most travelers in this country are Romani descent" Isn't the majority of travelers in the UK genetically Irish?
What the commenter wrote is definitely true in continental Europe though. Which is why I cringe so hard when fellow terminally online Europeans mock Americans for being so racist against black people and then turn around an claim that Romani aren't even people with the the same breath.

25:50 how are we leftists supposed to meet such people in the middle? Humanity is doomed.

that one guy saying that as a security worker all the pick-pocketers he catches are foreigners is such a self report omg. His bias makes him more likely to heavily scrutinise/watch people he perceives as foreigners - its just a negative bias feedback loop

this was a very interesting watch because it mirrors exactly how I feel… about the Swedish subreddit! the superiority complex, the chauvinism, the smarmy “Swedes are the most rational, smartest, bestest, most open-minded people in all of the world” while being actively hostile towards, say, immigrants, praising right-wing psychos and supporting the monarchy. it’s wild.
