It seems like a car is always healthier when its driven constantly. Its when they are left sitting around that kills them. Proof of this is seen in the diesel transport industry. Semis frequently go for millions of miles. Granted a diesel engine is a far more reliable design, but I dont see diesel cars and small trucks doing this. My rule is two weeks. I have always seemed to keep about half a dozen vehicles around (im a mechanic) and I have noticed if they sit there parked it will kill them. Always start them up, even if they arent going to be driven, and warm it to operating temperature, run through the gears, and flip all the switches and they seem to last forever.

I've driven those cars, being an old car guy, I can really appreciate that Irv must have a high tolerance (and an iron butt!!) for sitting in and driving what is basically a vintage car. Good for Irv. It’s a Really Kool car and a Great story. Wonder what kind of oil he uses and how often he changes it? On Volvo’s maintenance schedule or?? Would have been nice to have had those kinds of questions asked.

I have a cousin in the Hoedspruit area in South Africa who had a 1964 122 S which he had for many years and this car was really thrashed. Some years ago he sold the car to a friends son. About five years later, his fiend's son phoned him to say, Uncle Peter, I've just phone to tell you that your Volvo has just clocked over 1 Million Miles. That's included the hard driving and a lot on gravel roads. These are really great cars
