I'd say Bayo 1 has better boss fights than 2, specially the final boss. They're harder, more complex in places. No hand to hand combat in 2 comes close to the Jeanne fight and the end with Balder and Jubileus is just way ahead boring Aesir. I love both games to death and I just beat 2 on Switch, by the way.

Gameplay I would argue, goes to Bayonetta 1 instead. Bayonetta 2 adds quantity, without considering quality, making it a button masher due to strict time rankings and over-reliance on Witch Time, even adding it to NSIC which is nearly identical to Hard since in the first game you didn’t have any Witch Time, so you had to further master the combat system. The controls are only smoother in the second game. The first game’s reasonable ranking system and making each layer of the difficulties feel unique made it more addicting than the second game imo.

Bayo1 tests your abilities without Witch Time against enemies with bad defense.
Bayo2 tests your ability to Witch Time against enemies with good defense.

Bayo 1's story was much more interesting imo. Bayo 2 gameplay is better though.

Bayonetta 2 ruined the entire balance of the combat system. All the other points are moot.
Bayonetta 1 ultimately has the more satisfying gameplay that's hard, yet fair. and fun!

i really don’t think bayo 1 should have lost bosses. the bosses were more complex with more moves & the final boss was awesome. the bosses had a big story behind them

what i really wanna know is if bayo 2 has any of the cheap bullshit that one had, like quick times out of nowhere (or things in general that come out of nowhere without warning) and lack of consistency with combos and witch time (looking at you Balder)

I honestly hate umbran climax. Most angels don't have a single chance against it. It's overpowered and it feels too easy to use. They lowered the skill floor in Bayo 2, but also lowered the skill ceiling, making it so that the more experienced players don't have any real challenge.
Edit: I really feel like Bayo 1 has better boss fights.
