Killer Instinct Arcade Restoration - It's 'Almost' Done - Part 3

In this episode, we finally pick back up on the Killer Instinct restoration project. We complete the rest of the control panel and get read for final boot up and testing.

A little about Killer Instinct:

Killer Instinct is a series of fighting video games originally created by Rare and published by Midway, Nintendo, and Microsoft Studios. The original Killer Instinct was released for arcades in 1994; the game was then released for the Super NES and Game Boy in 1995. Its popularity led to a sequel, Killer Instinct 2, which was released for arcades in 1996; the game was then released as Killer Instinct Gold for the Nintendo 64. The series was rebooted with the release of Killer Instinct (2013) for the Xbox One.

Oh man, I can relate Ralph! I was putting the finishing touches on my KI last week and had the brilliant idea to change the coin lamps with the game on. While doing so, I touched something inside the coin door and the entire game shut off and wouldn't come back. I was freaking out!!!! Left it for a few minutes, came back and it started working again. Dodged a bullet for sure. I think you should keep it, regardless if you are good at it or not. It's a piece of arcade history and not going to get any easier to find going forward, if you ever wish to add it to your collection down the road.

Firstly, that control panel art really looks great! It is super cool to find stuff like that preserved underneath! Your smash TV was the same way! Secondly, thanks for sharing what really happens! Forgot to secure the monitor chassis. A classic blunder! That's the real stuff we all do! Most just have the guts to show it! It is especially easy to botch things up when your thinking about multiple projects at the same time. I try to force myself to work on just one at a time. That does not always work.

It’ll buff out…Probly just a fuse 😬 I remember I dropped a screw driver in the back of my turtles cab while attempting to “adjust” the monitor…no clue what I was doing. Turtles was my first cab and I was learning damn it lol. It landed on the fuse block and they all shorted at once with a brilliant spark. I was like and slowly put the back door on and went upstairs 😂 I’ve learned though the years that most mistakes can be fixed on these wonderful machines. Nice video man ✌️

A nice episode Ralph. A word of advice. If you have any interest in this game title at all you should consider keeping it in your collection. I've owned both KI1 and KI2. I sold them many years ago and regretted it. Plus, with prices going up on them it's not one that you can get back cheap unless you find a project. Anyway, something to think about. Learn from my mistake. I finally found another one after a few years of looking and don't plan on selling it again. :)

I wish I would of documented my MK1 cab restoration, it was converted to a Sharpshooter gun game, and painted all black. I managed to strip all of the paint, and by some miracle restored the original artwork in the end. It was a hell of a task. But damnit I love restoring machines
