Soleimani Assassination and Iranian Missile Strikes an 'Unprecedented' Step in U.S.-Iran Relations

Iran's retaliatory missile strikes on bases in Iraq housing U.S. troops, following the U.S. assassination of top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, have dramatically raised tensions in the Middle East. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei called the missile strike a "slap in the face" of the Americans and called for U.S. troops to leave the Middle East. The Iranian missile strikes come just days after the Iraqi Parliament voted to expel all foreign military forces from Iraq. We speak with Juan Cole, professor of history at the University of Michigan; Ali Kadivar, assistant professor of sociology and international studies at Boston College; and Anna Eskamani, Florida Democratic state representative from Orlando, who is the first Iranian American to be elected to any public office in Florida.

Still trying to get Iran to negotiate a deal after in a huge error, the US pulled out of the JCOPA. Why would anyone want to make a deal with a country that reneges on deals?

SD Esper is also part of the reasons for people leaving the Pentagon.

An end to the tension between Yemen and Saudi Arabia might mean the U.S. "protection" of the Saudi oil is no longer needed. Like with the U.S. protection of Syrian oil, there might have been a question of occupation and theft of the SA oil.

For the first time another country has directly attacked American forces I’ll say since WWII (although Israel did attack US ship by “accident” so they say) BIG show of force as Iran show they have the capabilities to strike anywhere in the region. RIP Martyr Soleimani

Iran didn’t “attack” anything or anybody. They simply shot some missiles into a area which according to the West can only result in democracy. So basically they were trying to plant the seeds freedom.

Well said. This is a good journalism even though Amy brings an Iranian who happens to be nervous and repeating the US propaganda. It is good to hear Professor and anti-Iranian. There is no comprising.
