Stag Arms Model 4 Unbox & Field Strip

The Stag Arms Model 4 reminds Graham a lot of the M16A3 he had in the Army. Unlike those old service rifles these are made to a higher standard and feature a heavy barrel and 1:9 twist.

I want one because of the simple design. No frills and fancy bs.

Have one myself, love it. Reminds of the M16A2 I had in the USMC in the late 80's., that's why I bought it.

I haven't served but appreciate the classic good looks. I also think there is an elegance to simplicity and this rifle has it for days.

I'm picking mine up from my local FFL tomorrow. I never served in the military, but I just love how this rifle looks, and I like the simplicity of it. I went through the whole "tacti-cool" AR phase, and those kinds of rifles just bore me now (maybe because literally everybody and their mother has one). I like the retro looks and authenticity of the early model M16's, and I was really happy to see Stag had a very high quality clone that was also at a great price.

Nice buy. I also had an M16/203 as my first rifle, but I loved the standard A2. Yes, I'm a crotchety retiree.

This model has since been renamed the "Retro" model and the barrel is now chrome-lined with a 1/8 twist.

I have one. I bought one several year's ago really not knowing about much about ARs I spent my time in the Navy. Great weapon I've have not had a bit of trouble with it except removing the Commiefotnia bullet button when I moved out of the state.

I remember how I used to hate the M16A2 when I first joined the military, I remember wanting to get an M-4 so badly back then. These days as strange as it seems to me now, I appreciate the M16A2/A4 rifles I was issued a lot more.

I like the M-4s for the shorter length that helps with getting in and out of vehicles, but that's about it. I like the longer sight radius on the 20" barreled M16s better, and even though some people say the M16A2/M16A4 buttstock is about an inch too long for them, I personally didn't have areal problem with it, and the stock was plenty strong too. I really don't care for M-4 style telescoping stocks, though some are better than others.

i already have 2 Stag ARs which have been great, as far as have I personally wanted an original style AR the answer is Yes! But I wanted the Colt model, no frills, 20 in barrel, visually just like this one. When and if i get one I won't change a thing on it. I have not been in the military. Be kinda cool to have an old school AR.
I think! lol

I was regular U S army 1991-96 and am very interested in this, been looking for an exact looking one that looked like the ones I actually used in the army for awhile now and I think I found it. These new fangled M4 and fancy dancy rigs, just don't do it for me.

Never served but like to shoot iron sights and love the feel of the full size rifle.

For those of us that were around when the M-16A2 first rolled out, that stiffness in separating the upper and lower is very authentic :) I love the 20 inch rifle barreled ARs. Not sure how I feel about the removable carry handle however and for me it wouldn't get used because this is not a rifle I would run optics on. I would definitely be interested in a release of a decent priced ($1000-1500) quality A2 and A1 models (from any company). When I had the cash for an A2 model I couldn't find one for love or money, so I ended up getting an AK-74 instead. (This was a year after Sandy Hook). Maybe it's because I am an old Cold War Grunt, but the M4 series and the Civilian versions of it, just don't get me warm and fuzzy like some of the younger crowd.

Cool pictures! Funny to see you with no beard. :) I like the rifle, especially the heavy barrel. If I had one I would keep it just as it is with no optics. 👍
