PA Dutch Potato Filling | Thanksgiving tradition

Today we teach you the perfect Pennsylvania Dutch potato filling. This is a traditional Thanksgiving recipe in our family, it’s easy to make, and we certainly hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Let us know what you think!

Recipe:
-2 onions
-4 or 5 stalks of celery
-Half a loaf of French bread
-Mashed potatoes (check out our last video to see how we made those!).
Note: if you use our previous mashed potatoes recipe, add an extra cup of heavy whipping cream, it helps the bread absorb more and be less dry!

Thank you for posting this. I grew up on my family's PA Dutch food, especially my grandmothers. Lived in Kansas after moving from PA and now is WA state, no one has even heard of potato filling, pineapple filling, and also Lebanon bologna or Taylor pork roll. I miss PA Dutch food!

My father added giblets and/or giblet broth if his mixture needed moisture. He didn’t bother sautéing either, but essentially same recipe (also added parsley). Thanks!

I really want to make this. So, I can prepare everything the day before, and just bake it off the day of? Do I need to let it come to room temperature first?

That is the closest filling I have seen that resembles "PA Dutch" filling. All the others use too much milk(I don't even use it)and run the celery, onions, and parsley through a blender. By the time they are done it is nothing but flavored mashed potatoes. Same stuff they feed the tourists at the restaurants.
