"she's not a main character who's interesting enough to spend a lot of time alone" is such a specifically book reviewer type of burn and I love it 😂

As soon as you held up Mother Ocean, Daughter Sea I was like THAT'S THE ONE WITH THE WIFE WE'RE SUPPOSED TO HATE WHO'S JUST DOING HER BEST. Clearly it left an impression on me even vicariously

noooo bad enemies to lovers is the worst!! your impression of it was hysterical though - yes I've read books like that and it's just ???? that escalated quickly LOL

Hah, completely agree about the Wolf and the Woodsman. It was really poorly executed in my opinion.

I tried the Priory of the Orange Tree in 2020 and DNFd it pretty early on (100 page mark, maybe sooner) but I'm going to give it another try this year before I say my permanent goodbye. This doesn't sound very hopeful. 😅

Haha, love your look of disgust on the thumbnail photo

Totally understand you on The Lies of Locke Lamora. I personally liked the book, but surprisingly, for all the praise I heard for their friendship, the relationship of the Gentleman Bastards was super underwhelming. It was the least interesting thing for me. I read the second one, and the only believable friendship for me was between Locke and Jean. Maybe Father Chains and Locke a little bit.

Also, I planned on reading She Who Became The Sun on a whim, putting it on my tbr without much insight, but I don't believe I'll like it either because I'm not into military-focused stories, so I think I'll pass. My tbr is long enough haha. So nice heads-up.

Love the thumbnail photo; that is some fierce side eye 😒😁

I feel the same about Addie LaRue; I kept wondering if I was reading the same book everyone else was raving about.

I think my most disappointing book of this year was The Midnight Library. It just fell flat for me. I did not get the enchanting book about books I was promised.

EXACTLY! I read Vicious and it just went downhill from there. I kept hoping that the next one will be better, next one, next one, and it turns out I don't like VE Schwab at all and was fooled into thinking I do. Addie LaRue was SO BORING, YES!! Wriring is so average, character are so MEH, etc etc. Thank you for this video.

can you elaborate about the archetype V.E. Schwab uses a little more? i've never read her books but that makes me curious. i'm always interested in character types or themes authors always return to.
