What is the difference between the IELTS General Essay and the IELTS Academic essay?

In this video we discuss the requirements of each and see how the main difference is language expectations.

Essentially, the requirements are the same for both tests, though examiners will want to see some more sophistication and complexity in the Academic version of the test.

I took IELTS Academic on 6th Jan 2022 with only 20 days of self-study from Internet and got my result today; overall 8. L:8, R:8.5, S:7.5, W:7.5. Alhamdulillah. Slightly disappointed with listening as I was getting consistent 9s on Cambridge tests and was expecting at least 8.5 in actual test as well but alas. Also, I was hoping for 8 in writing as well. Satisfied with speaking as I made plenty of blunders during the speaking session. Still satisfied that got 8 on first try that too without rechecking. A huge thank you to WritetotheTop. I like how the academic version is more neutral gender. Adam, would you be able to expan the idea of how writing with a netrual gender voice could impact on the final score for IELTS?
