This is the difference between communist economic mindset of India and Capitalistic mindset of the west.

Imagine if govt bailed out Mallaya and bought 50% stake in UB holdings, we could have saved the direct/indirect employment of nearly 15000 - 20000 people in the aviation sector. No fan of the way Mallaya ran away from India, but let’s remember this guy paid thousands of crores of taxes over the years. Our taxes are spent on air India, which has drained 60, 000 crores so far, let that number sink in. Even if you look at china/Japan/SouthKorea the government helps out their companies during crisis. Classic examples would be Samsung, Hyundai how southKorea helped their industries through government funding.

Again don’t support what Mallaya did, his behavior was certainly of pre medicated criminal intent, but it is not easy to create entrepreneurs like him, he had all successful ventures except kingfisher, we certainly need to give him a second chance. In India we bloody produce 9-5 people who work for a paycheck, rarely we get entrepreneurs like him who have the vision.

Anyways this will fall on deaf ears.

A coin has two sides. We haven't heard the story of the other side completely.

How sensible is to accept part repayment? If Banks accept part amount, the Banker strengthens the borrower position implicitly to bargain for more time and it goes on. If Banks refuse part amount, the Banks can prove that the borrower has no intention to repay and he is a wilful defaulter. In case of a small borrower the first one is O.K., but in case of Mallya, the second is O.K.
