Liar Liar Court Scene

One of my favorite scenes from Liar Liar.
Breaks my heart that this kind of nonsense still happens.

As my beautiful daughter's sixteenth birthday rapidly approaches, I take a glance back at some of the unnecessary hardships that she and I have had to endure throughout this beautiful journey.

So this one's for my Imperfect, Indestructible, Intentional #Fathers out there, who have dug their heels in and stayed the course, against all odds.

We see you, we Love you, may the bond you have with your child forever remain unbreakable and may you continue to inspire them to be the best they can be, as you continue to be the best you can be.

As someone with Aspergers Syndrome, I’d like to give a great big THANK YOU to a lot of the commenters here. I saw this when I was 12 or 13, didn’t understand what was going on — in hindsight, I THOUGHT it was my Aspergers, but it turns out ALOT of you didn’t understand the scene at that age either! Thanks for making me realize that, as far as this scenario is concerned, it was (for lack of a better word) normal for me to NOT understand this scene at that age.

"I hold myself in contempt" always stood out to me not as a joke but his realization and guilt were so powerful for this scene and those lines. One of my most favorite actors hands down

The fact that Fletcher can't lie and yells, "I hold myself in contempt!"

That is so powerful, he realized what he did, how he is no different than the father who just wanted to keep his kids. And he took it from him.

*And he hates himself for it.*

As a kid I didn't realize understand the double meaning of "I hold myself in contempt!" and now rewatching it I immediately got weepy. Actually an incredible line delivered incredibly.

Its scary how relevant this scene is today:

- A parent using their own children as tools to hurt the other parent or for personal gain
- Golddiggers playing the victim so the system is on their side
- Objectively awful people manipulating the courts of law via loopholes

Bet he feels even more sorry for them as she’s dragging them out of the courtroom away from their father.

Remember, every single thing he says in these few scenes is completely true, just like the rest of the movie, its a theme I've been exploring for years and new angles keep coming to light.
My favorite quote is "I have just entered the 7th circle of hell, thank you" has WAY more meaning than i could ever image at the time....

Watching this as a kid I always thought this was such a funny movie, which it is!! But after being in this situation myself now, as a father, I completely understand what he felt. Powerful stuff.
