Newsshooter video test: 4K Sony a7S vs a7S II colour

The shots above are with both cameras set up identically in S-Log 2 at 3200 ISO, both recording 4K externally at 25P to an Atomos Ninja Assassin external recorder in ProRes HQ to get as good an image as possible. The lens was an 85mm Zeiss Milvus in Canon mount on a Metabones Smartadapter IV. White balance was set to tungsten and all lighting was from 3200K Dedolights.

The idea here is to see if there are any obvious differences in colour between the two when shooting S-Log 2.

You can definitely tell in the zoomed in comparison that they have reduced noise greatly in the mkii. If you look at her hair next to the color palate you can see what I'm talking about. Mkii looks great!

Thanks for sharing! It would be interesting to see, 4k of A7s + Assassin vs internal 4k of A7s II, and if you guys could compare A7s + Assassin 120fps vs A7s II internal 120fps, that would be awesome! Thanks

Another test might be to compare if having it recorded externally, vs. internal with Sony's XAVCS is any different.

One major problem with the mark one was the red channel. Very magenta. Seems like they've dialed it in just right now.
