Oh this forgotten satisfaction of actually seeing a review on YouTube

I have been toying with buying the evolution miter saw. Nice that it can cut steel and old lumber without regard to nails.

We can't blame the tools when we screw up and watching you do it is a lot cheaper then finding out for myself. Good and honest video. I like it.

I love the fact that you have the integrity to give an honest review. I feel like some content creators would hype it up for the free saw. Thanks for the review.

Matthias, you wouldn't believe how much your review helped me make up my mind, I am a hobby wood/metal worker, I had been wondering if a dry saw would be a better tool than my portable bandsaw(portaband) for cutting miters in metal tubing/angle iron, but after watching your quick review I got my answer, they are great saws but just not the right choice for me for the same reasons you mentioned. thank you for your help.

I had an old "tool sharpener" tell me that workpiece vibration, for any reason, will dramatically decrease the life of the blade and quickly cause loss of carbide inserts, thanks for proving him right on all points.

This is the type thing that should go on the main channel. People would have great interest in a saw like this.

Your supposition that these types of saws are for more experienced folks working on new materials I think is a fair one. In welding classes we were taught that when used these types of saws, you have to engage it in the material gently at first to avoid damaging the blade. I also have a handheld Dewalt metal cutting circular saw which uses carbide tipped blades. I totally messed up the blade once trying to get through bed springs and other metal trash around a friends property. On new material that was well supported is was great though. Can't beat the thin cutoff wheels for a lot of stuff though. One note about the 14" abrasive saws: they work well, but you have to learn not to force the blade down too hard as it can cause a fair bit of deflection resulting in a cut that's not square. With a little care though that's preventable though.

Why is it that the carbide saw won't do good on a plasma cut area or a welded area?

I use the cutoff discs myself, but they are certainly capable of creating massive injuries. I have been at this stuff 50 years, and lucky so far. But if you need videos like this to figure tools out (and we are lucky to have them), you may not have the chops to run an angle grinder safely. Look up angle grinder accident/images on google for some sense of what can happen. Lots of gory picks of adult onset hair lips, or saber slashes to the bone. Relatively easy to sidestep if you understand kickback, and know how to keep the saws lined up. But given the number of pros hurt, that kind of skill may be uncommon.

Another thing to keep in mind when doing metal work is you will need to volunteer for a corneal x-ray, if you need an MRI.

It depends on the usage of the saw. I started with angle grinder but the repeatability of the cut was horrible. I went with a dry cut saw and it has helped me work much faster. Drilling/cutting into plasma cut stuff or welds are definitely not recommended on any saw. The bandsaw teeth will also dull and abrasive disc will wear down quicker.

I have a Milwaukee version of this saw and ran into the same issue after cutting up a bed frame which turned out to be made of hardened steel. On mild steel or even unhardened drill rod it works fine provided the work is secured. If I don't know what I'm cutting, I just use the abrasive saw.

agree 😊 I am "hooked" on these thin cutoffdisks! They cut like a hot knife through butter

Nice review, I didn't realize those carbide tipped metal blades were so fragile.

I got a milwaukee portaband, I am super happy with it. That it doesn't throw crap around is just so nice. Maybe a wooden version would be something?

So which one is best for cutting meat? I have some people issues, that need to be.... fixed..

Please use the guard on your angle grinder with the thin cut off discs as people have been killed by those discs shattering when they force them or try to use them as a grinding disc.

I've got a cheap little carbide saw I got from Aldi years ago thats still using the original blade. I've had it through a fair amount of steel and aluminium now, as deep as the blade, and I think the big factor in it surviving so long is that the motor is so underpowered it tends to stall before it damages the teeth.

Buddy any blade any belt any disc will be damage if the part moves while being cut .

Almost always the simpler the better. Abrasive saws are hard to beat. Keep on keeping on.
