The most shocking thing is that Czech Republic is sometimes labeled as an Eastern European country. As this video demonstrates, the architecture is western, the culture is western, the religion (catholic and protestant) is western, the history is western, the way of life is western. Yes, it used to be part of the Eastern block in the political sense during the Cold War period and it surely left some marks on the people and the country, but calling it as Eastern Europe is not right. It's very wrong for many reasons.

My first encounter with the Czech Republic was visiting the MotoGp races in Brno and I absolutely loved it that I kept returning multiple times. Sadly, due to expensive repairs required (they mistakenly allowed truck racing) it’s been taken off the racing calendar.
Nevertheless, I‘m planning our wedding anniversary celebration in Prague this summer.
btw; this beautiful country was also a producer of some of the most amazing motorcycles in the world, including competition!

More interesting facts:
- Mercedes the car manufacturer company is named after Czech engineer’s (mr. Jelínek) daughter Mercedes Jelínek) who pushed through the idea that cars should go faster than 40km/h saying “If it doesn’t go faster than a horse why would I buy it?”
- The word Robot was first made up by Czech writer Karel Čapek.
- Czech shoemaker Tomáš Baťa made the prices ending with .99 a world phenomenon. Pretty much everyone adopted it after him.
- Despite being under Eastern block, us Czechs developed, engineered and made pretty much every pistol, rifle, smg, armored carriers, trucks, cars, and to a degree even planes ourselves breaking common rule in USSR. Česká Zbrojovka even bought legendary Colt company.
- Czech Republic is something you would call Texas of Europe. We are more free than most of the US when it comes to gun laws and access to guns, self defense and conceal carry yet we’re 4-9th safest country in the world (depending on which study you look at). No nonsense knife bans either. Clearly it’s not about tools but thats another topic.
- Before WW2 Czechoslovakia and Germany were pretty much the only two industrial states in Europe while every other were agricultural.
- The word Howitzer comes from Czech “Houfnice” and Pistol from early term “Pišťala”.
- If you put 10 Czechs in a room to discuss which Czech beer is the best one, you’ll get at least 11 different answers.

Great video, just quick notice to beer consumption. Yes it is true that beer culture here is very strong and consumption huge, but we have also huge help in this. Czech republic is annually visited by 37 millions of tourists. This is almost 4 times our population and those people are often very thirsty. ;-)

You have so calming voice, I almost fell asleep☺️ Greetings from Czech republic aka Czechia 🇨🇿👋

We also have universal healthcare and university education without tuition for all. Those are two other top facts about the Czech Republic. Additionally our cities and villages are walkable, and we have a good, extensive and inexpensive public transportation network running throughout the country.

We enjoyed it. We only have experience of Prague, but would love to explore more of this fascinating country. We enjoyed these facts. We agree with the beer choice!!! Cheers 🍻

First beer is Pilsner Urquell, only one original Pilsener from Pilsen town. And second.... Budweiser. But original Budweiser from Budweis town, not American Budweiser, (stolen by Anheuser-Busch during the WW2.) Budweiser from Budweis city has more then 800 years history old... And first big Hollywood movie filmed in Prague was Forman's Amadeus (1984). 🙂

Great video, as a native Czech I could sign everything. Only Pilzner Urquell unfiltered, I had to look this beer up and yes this unfiltered special was really sold 1 month 3 years ago. It is possible that there is unfiltered beer offered during the tour of the brewery, but at the moment it is not commonly bought. Very good choice but a bit rare.

The Czech lands did not become a communist country voluntarily, but by a violent coup in February 1948 organized by Soviet/Russian agents - the same happened in all countries occupied by the Soviet/Russian army. Even Poland, then the most anti-communist country in Europe, became a communist state. For the next 40 years, we ceased to exist for Western Europe, and now their tourists are surprised that people here do not use the Cyrillic alphabet and are not Orthodox.

Please, don´t call Czechia as Eastern European country. We are in the real heart of Europe - Prague is more western than Wiena and just because we had bad times with the Soviets and their "friendly" visits and communist domination, we are not in the eastern part of Europe. All Czechs would be really offended if you call us Eastern Europeans.

A few necessary corrections:

1) Others have already written about the fact that the Czech Republic ("Czechia") is made up of three countries - Silesia in addition to Bohemia and Moravia.

2) We did not break away from the Eastern (Soviet) bloc in 1993, but in 1989 - during the so-called Velvet Revolution (the Soviet Union finally broke up in 1991).
In 1993, the country - Czechoslovakia, or formally the Czech and Slovak Federative Republic ("ČSFR") - was divided, resulting in the creation of two independent countries - the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

EDIT: OK, also the second fact has already been described here by others.

Hi im a Czech and i would like to give you all a small advice. You see when talking to Czechs please don’t tell us that we are an eastern country. We are very sensitive about it and hate it when people call us that. So be mindful of that when interacting with Czechs. Ou and one more think, don’t tell us how to pour beer, we probably know it better since we are all about beer. Its the same like that you won’t tell a french person how to make wine. Anyways stay safe and definitely visit us here in Czech Republic. It might seem like we are unwelcoming from my comment but do believe me we love visitor’s.😊🍻🍺🏰🏰

cool video, one more shocking fact is that Czech Republic is the most atheistic country in the world. If you dont count our love to the beer as a religion. ;)
