-----------------------------
In this clip, Michael Jai White reacts to Akon's controversial statement about Black people in the U.S. being held back by focusing on slavery. Michael admitted that he agrees with Akon's statement to a degree, and he went on to share his experiences visiting Africa. He went on to speak on Africa not being a "promiscuous culture," and women not being portrayed as "loose" because African women pride themselves on their chastity.

Akon was referring to the "victim mentality". He isn't saying forget about slavery.

Slavery still has a chokehold on black Americans. Very hard to just "get over it" when the consequence of it are still built into the infrastructure of what America is.

I'm African and we have a tendency to brush over the madness of our history, yeah, it's not working! I don't think it's good to obsess over it, either, but it does need to be addressed properly and with reparations.

When I see a black person doing well I feel proud but when I see them forget what it’s like not to be wealthy and black I just shake my head

I don't think having a conversation about history is an issue, however not everything is the fault of suppression/oppression and racism. If you can't take ownership and accountability for yourself/family, you'll forever be held back

Malcolm X said it best...you can’t make a situation better by ignoring it or acting like it didn’t exist...it’s a pet peeve when people try to act smarter than what they really are

If we were talking about something that lasted for a few days or weeks, it would be easy to move on and make a lesson from it. But slavery/segregation lasted for CENTURIES, legally we’ve only been free for 60-70 years but minorities didn’t start getting treated like equal citizens until like the 1980s. There has to be a correction this country has to make for us to truly move on.

Systematic racism is a present issue not a past issue. Slavery was the genesis. That's why it's focused on.

Celebrities should stay in their lane, especially when they aren't educated about US Slavery, Oppression and generational terrorism of ADOS.

The victim mentality holds everyone back whether its race related or not, and is the most significant way by far to hamper your life potential. It's easier said than done because when the ego has latched on to this identity, letting go of it means death, so it does everything it can to keep the cycle going. That's why you have people arguing and defending their beliefs, and in the end, they are no better off. Maybe even more angry and upset. Then they turn to various highs to numb the pain through pleasure seeking activies like drugs, porn, sex, overeating, etc. Instead they should use this time to fully experience their emotions and look deeper, instead of suppressing them which just keeps the ego alive. You must learn to fully accept and let go. That is the only way out.

Imagine you were held captive in dude's basement for 40 years, got out and dude was legally allowed to stalk, intimidate and beat you for the next 10 years and now you're 55 and everytime you wanna talk about it people say "why you bringing up old ish?" Cuz PTSD doesn't have an expiration date that's why!

Crazy part is in that same interview he said he wouldn’t accept Senegal’s national currency because of what the French did to his people. Why doesn’t he just let it go
