Adhamya Chetana got its inspiration from Smt. Girija Shastri, who is the mother of Shri Ananthkumar, MP of Bangalore South constituency. Having started as a small effort in 1997, is now a massive movement and is touching the lives of lakhs of students and people without many essential facilities.

Through its Annapoorna programme and in association with the Central and State government, Adhamya Chetana is providing hot nutritious mid-day meals to lakhs of students in Hubli, Rajasthan, Kalburgi and Bengaluru everyday.

Aata Paatha – Play and learn, a unique mobile educational resource facility, Arogya Chetana, a health insurance scheme for children, Shikshaka Chetana, to empower school teachers, Chinnara Chetna, an informative monthly wall magazine are some of the various activities undertaken by Adamya Chetana.

Adhamya Chetana gives great importance to mother nature. Any programme or project being conducted by us is in-sync with our resolution of conserving the nature. All the early steps taken to conserve the nature are still embedded deep within our daily activities.

Over 72,000 meals per day and no garbage at the kitchen. Yes, it is the way of life at Annapoorna in Bengaluru. The more than 1000 liters of startch that is producing daily during the process of food production is utilized in the preparation of Sambar. There is no space for garbage in our kitchen.

During the initial days, there was more than 300 kgs of garbage being generated in the kitchen daily. But since 2011, there is absolutely no garbage being generated in our kitchens. Any diced vegetable waste is used as fodder for cattle as well as compost.

The kitchen at Bengaluru started its operations with LPG as fuel, switched over to diesel and is presently on bio-fuel. It is over half a decade now since Annapurna is saving nearly 1 lakh liters od diesel and over 12,500 LPG cylinders every year. Renewable non-petroleum fuel is being used at the bio-mass stove. Besides, Adhamya Chetana is one of the earliest entities to make the solar energy by installing 5kW grid tiles rooftop solar panels on its roof. Reuse and Recycle is the mantra of Adhamya Chetana.

Adhamya Chetana advocates zero garbage dining. Annapoorna plate bank stocks more than ten thousand steel, plates, spoons and tumblers. This plate bank has motivated hundreds of programme organizers to go green.
