It's a bit embarrassing that there are videos on youtube made *this week* with 240p or 144p potatovision, while this 19th century footage is clear and sharp and in some cases HD level.

It's so surreal to see people wearing those clothes and living every day life instead of a reenactment in a movie. I'd love to see more fashion videos from around this time if you have any!

According to stats, about 144 people are still alive today that were alive in the 1800's, so it's possible that one of them younger people here may be still around. I'll never forget a conversation I had in 1999 with a 106 year old man who, in answering my question about what he thought about entering a new century, indicted how clear his memory was of a block party financed by his parents...to welcome in 1900. He answered, "You've seen one new century come, you've seen'm all!".

I have been to Westminster bridge and it is eerie to think that people have walked on it for years, and looked at Big Ben and in the admiration of everyone around..

Is amazing how much has changed since then. If you brought one of them people back they wouldnt recognise their home town anymore, so many new people, cultures and buildings. Wonder what the UK will be like when I snuff it.

In the space of two seconds I saw ads for Cadbury and Lipton. The more things change the more they stay the same. Not one damn car in sight. In 1900 there might have been two thousand cars in the whole world.

Yeah, the 20th century is actually notorious for being a century of change and innovation. In 1900 we still mostly traveled by horse and buggy and by 1999 we had been to the moon and both cars and airplanes have become common methods of travel. In addition to that the world is far more connected thanks to the internet and cinema to such an extent that it would be mindblowing to someone who could travel from the early 20th century to the late 20th century in a time machine.
