This Weird Item Was BROKEN In Early Pokemon Games

there is nothing that would make me more frustrated than getting an X item as a reward in a Pokemon game. you know the boost is good but I want consistent strength. I understand now they're good for doing nuzlockes and speedrunning but I'm still sort of jaded! I was on the other hand a big fan of trying to use horn drill and fissure so I wish I had known about this

Is it just me or is Guillotine the most brutal sounding move in the series?

You call it an oversight, I call it the only reason we get to enjoy the knowledge that Gen 1 can be beaten without ever taking damage.

had to kind of experiment with the on screen composition for this one, hope it's still enjoyable

In Round 2 mode on Pokemon Stadium 2 there's a CPU trainer that uses a Poliwrath with Lock On and Fissure

OHKO moves aren't all hard locked to 30% accuracy. Sheer Cold is level dependent. If you're lower level then your opponent, the move fails. If you're the same level, the move is 30% accurate. For every level higher, it's a 1% increase in accuracy, so if you're 70 levels higher then the opponent, it's a guaranteed OHKO. Ice types are also immune to Sheer Cold

I legit had no idea this was the case for Gen 2 as well! I've never seen anyone use it compared to Gen 1.

This is why mons with no guard can't learn ohko moves and are slow as snot. Skill swap teams focused on this have existed, but there are usually better sweeps.

As a kid I loved OHKO moves and viewed them as the ultimate attacking moves.

But the older I got, the more I realized that I have been blinded by their technically infinite power but OHKO moves are actually pretty much useless, because they rarely work against an enemy you'd actually need to use them on.

So that explains how Gen 1 speedruns use Horn Drill on Nidoking

Had Geodude learn 'double team' & 'mud slap'. He became hard to hit, and hard to miss as the tank of the team, only set to stall for heals. Best plays of my first few runs in Gen 2.

It's worth mentioning that in gen 1 OHKO moves couldn't hit a faster opponent. I think the only NPC trainers with OHKO moves have them on slow pokemon, so it's not much of a threat.

Sheer Cold Mind Reader Articuno would like a word.

I had this Mind Reader / Fissure Poliwrath in Silver. You could get it by evolving to a Poliwrath in Red/Blue before level 50 and learn Fissure from the TM from the last gym. Once transfered to Silver/Gold/Crystal you could learn Mind Reader at level 51
1. Mind Reader
2. Fissure
3. Blizzard
4. Hydro Pump/Body Slam/Haze/Mist/Rest
The major issue was fighting flying types. Blizzard was still inaccurate and his spc attack was mediocre. Flying/Water just shut him down. (Looking at you Gyarados)

As a nuzlocker this video was very helpful for future nuzlockes on old games. Thank you

This music sounds so familiar. I might be wrong, but is it this battle coliseum thing where you can get a shiny Groudon hat?

I try not to use X Accuracy unless Karen gets really sassy with me. It totally bypasses accuracy drops from sand attack so I use it if I get mad. Otherwise my Smeargle in my normal type challenge had spore, mind reader, and horn drill with max speed.
