According to Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, a depression in the Bay of Bengal is projected to escalate into a cyclone storm by tomorrow morning, strengthening into a severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow night. Coastal regions of West Bengal are bracing for wind speeds of 110-120 kmph by midnight on May 26, with even higher speeds anticipated in Bangladesh. The districts of North and South 24 Parganas and East Medinipur are likely to bear the brunt of the storm's impact. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in West Bengal on May 26-27, accompanied by extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas. Additionally, coastal areas of North Odisha may experience isolated heavy rainfall, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph. Rainfall warnings extend to all northeastern states, with extreme rainfall expected in some areas.
