Yaa about the taboo thing. It highly depends on where you are in Japan and what profession you have. Gyms can ban you from their gym if they see tattoos.

Tattoos are still taboo. If you’re a student, tourist and you don’t live there or trying to work there it doesn’t matter, no one cares. But if you want a corporate job, go to the gym, go to Japanese spa, you need to hide your tattoos. Yes in 2025.
