It all washes to quilt perfection. You will be very happy then. I love the look after washing and drying.

Hello Emma! Yes some batting/wadding is cheaply rolled and packaged it can create wrinkles but you can lightly spray mist with water smooth out and let it relax and dry if it's cotton. I use Quilter's Dream wadding it comes folded not rolled and prices are comparable. Of coarse I am in the USA so not sure it's available to you there in England. Please, please press your seams open on your backing! Important your quilt top and backing are nicely pressed and the seam on the backing pressed open so it lays flat. Some quilters will clamp the backing and wadding to the table...my choice. I always lay everything out and let it relax overnight. It seems to help. I just saw you try to sandwich all 3 layers together. You may have heard me yell NO!! You just said you ironed everything really well so now I can breathe again 😂 nice job😊

I adore your fabric choices. I suspect that you use Liberty of London sometimes. So happy I found your channel. I absolutely love your patterns..😊

Hi Emma
I think you did a beautiful job on quilting your quilt. I think that every little wrinkle gives it that much more character. The quilt is beautiful. God bless you sweet lady 💕

Your quilts are beautiful! I love the fabrics. I also quilt on my domestic machine and I table basted my last quilt and enjoyed the process so much more than floor basting. I also used Elmer's school glue and it worked very well. I drizzled a thin amount on the batting then smoothed the fabric on it. Once it dries, it stays and no puckering when quilting. It is non toxic and doesn't smell and washes out but if you don't wash your quilts, then school glue wouldn't be a good option.

Hi Emma! You are such a lovely person😊.

I wear my somewhat worn leather gloves when I machine quilt to help me feed the quilt through. The gloves reduces the strain in my shoulders. They are especially helpful with Liberty since it is silky smooth.

Beautiful quilts as always Emma. Just a couple of suggestions from what I have observed.
1. Please be careful when ironing and having your cutting mat under your wool pressing mat. The heat gets trapped and it will warp your cutting mat. I found that out the hard way and it warped my cutting mat AND my table 🤦🏼‍♀️
2. Get some gardening gloves that have some bumpy dots on them. It will help you move your quilt while quilting and reduce your arm and wrist strain.

Finally, I love your new studio!! It looks so beautiful and peaceful! Keep up the good work! You are doing great!!

Hello, Emma-love the quilts! I bought a micro stitcher gun from Amazon to use instead of basting and pinning. You can buy invisible or black micro stitches depending on the colour of your quilt. The tiny stitches go through all 3 layers and you can avoid crinkles when you have your quilt laid out straight. They only come out when you snip them off and don't distort the layers even when the quilt is heavy.I find this a quicker method as I hand quilt and the fabric and wadding stay exactly in place.Hope this helps.Love all your videos.Take care, Liz x

I love the fluffiest 100% poly wadding, but it doesn't last. This is what I did.

In 1997 I needed one more class to keep my full time scholarship, so I registered for quilting. The quilt had to be pieced, quilted and bound by the last day in May. Well like all of us, my other classes had priority and piecing was done with a week to go, so I tied the quilt in an afternoon, machine sewed on one side of the binding and used dissolvable thread for the second side of the binding because I like to do that by hand and I didn't want to rip it out by hand at a later date. I got the quilt done by finals and got an A in the class. Only because I knew some loopholes... Invisible thread and tying a quilt instead of actual quilting.

Over the years the quilt has compressed and I'm hand quilting it bit by bit and it looks as good as any quilt done with 100% cotton wadding.

I too like big stitch quilting because it saves my hands.

My advice is pull out your old quilt with no expectations and see what you can do with it as we both know, we did the best we could at the time with the knowledge we had back then. Now we know better, so we can do better. 💖🌞🌵😷

Lovely quilts, and I think you are brave to quilt such a big quilt on your machine. I found a great method of basting on a table top for quilts not quite that big, using pool noodles and you roll the 3 layers onto them so that you can really get it tight and flat before pin basting. Also I use a pair of gardening gloves when quikting which helps me control the quilt so my hands don’t slip on the fabric. You have done well, lovely work

I had exactly the same problem and ended up using quilting safety pins as well.

Emma, I use to leave my cutting mat on the table and then my thick wool ironing pad on top. All went well for quite awhile and then I noticed my cutting mat becoming distorted from the heat coming through my ironing pad. I had to decommission it which made me sad as they are now so expensive to buy. I think I heard you say that you had left your cutting mat on the table. Just thought I should tell you my experience. I love your quilt tops and new sewing space. ❤️🌺

Well they are very big projects and I must say I send my quilts to the quilter. There is no way I’d try something that big.. however I use the one sided iron on polyester for wall hangings and such I’ve never used double sided fusible. Very pretty liberty fabrics and yes I also blame you because now I’m collecting a little stockpile of liberty scraps because I would like to do a little project with it. I look forward to doing a bit of hand quilting when I do one of those Hexie quilt as you go projects that you have inspired me to start. I love variegated thread whether it be DMC for cross stitch or sewing and the colour you picked was really beautiful.

Hi Emma, thanks for sharing! For me is the method with pool tubes the best way to sandwich a quilt. If you don't know what I mean search on youtube. It seemes to me that the long strips between the blocks doesn't fit very well. I guess they are too long and that's causes also the problem of the wrinkles. Ironing is important too. But even with the crinkles the quilts are lovely! ❤

I like the warm and natural cotton batting, I've used Hobbs in the past, nit a fan, you can also fluff it up in the dryer
