My case would not apply to the innocence project, in this case that I would like discuss with a staff member; however, having come face to face with this “judicial system” at the age of nearly 60 with no prior interface with the system, from the stand point of an elderly individual who was brought in to the system from the street (exposure to the elements) and repeatedly requesting the addressing of my simple first aid needs in that situation and my diabetic condition being ignored and the “torture” I received due to my vague ability to attempt to articulate my condition and the punishment administered by the rank during booking which lasted more than 2 days in a small Texas county jail which extended my inability to properly participate in my bond processing and release on bail sooner than the three weeks it took to become rehydrated and mentally oriented. I am seeking from your organization a referral to an organization which addresses the rights and violations of law enforcement with respect to the homeless and indigents in society. I realize that this is likely a loosing engagement with the establishment which has passed many acts and reforms to protect their authority to “keep the peace” however having been a non drug addicted individual who has experienced homelessness outside of the shelter system and being an individual dedicated to the general health and welfare of the generations within my own family. I feel that the law enforcement communities continued Cart Blanch concerning their blatant disregard for common first aid health responses which are very well known and understood by the most rudimentary screening staff at every public health institution in this country should NOT be permitted to continue it’s current callous disregard of the citizens of this country drug addicted, indigent, powerless socially disconnected or not! It is time to expect/correction TO DEMAND responsibility on the part of law enforcement for the education and adequate administration of first aid prior to the arrest, booking and incarceration process in this INFORMATION AGE where such basic common sense has been well known and understood but our most primary caretakers in society, OUR OWN GRANDMOTHERS—for Pete’s sake my friends, let’s get real with this cause! It is beyond criminal on the part of this first world society we live in that it is acceptable to allow this type of maltreatment and human abuse of environmentally exposed individuals (homeless without protective cover from the exposure to the elements—meaning those homeless without cars to live in to protect from exposure to the elements). I would like to eventually work toward new laws protecting the rights of occupation of motor vehicles of the homeless to become as sacred legally as the rights of any individual who occupies a dwelling which is NOT mobile! I would like to see a more civilized eviction process take place before ousting an individual from his or her car which is being used as a dwelling substitute in this society of disposable human beings that were promising and productive citizens at one point before this culture, education system, “safety net” decided to defund and limit our constitutional representation as defined prior to the 1870’s and dispense with the public supports for the means to civilized recourse against this obscene obsession with the pursuit of profit in lue of our right to the pursuit of happiness! Law suits of this nature are our only recourse of a civilized nature and should not be legislated against further protecting the powers of the state which growingly continues to erode the quality of life for our citizens and make barbarians of a gravely callous sort of those who simply wish to be gainfully employed by the state. Law enforcement personnel should not be forced to sell their own humanity to the devil in order to realized their innocent and admirable ambition to be a true peace keeper in his own country of origin.
