Even in the expensive world of spices, saffron stands out. Real saffron can cost you over $10,000 per kilogram. No machine can do the delicate work required to harvest these thin threads. It can take 40 hours of hard manual labor to produce just 1 kilogram of high-quality saffron.

I would be pissed if I spent that much time taking care of the flowers on the fields and some random guy just made synthetic ones in factories

It is expensive, I agree, but if you can get hold of a good quality saffron, and know how to use it in your cooking, then it is ABSOLUTELY worth every cent. The aroma is just, insane.

must read - I'm a saffron producer. I have years of personal experience with saffron, it's expensive because it's mostly hand work, gathering saffron flower is really hard probably mexicans who gather strawberries in southern US can feel how hard it is but you should add cold air to it. believe me people you don't want to do it. Spain's saffron is mostly Iranian saffron labled or rebranded as Spanish, thanks to the corrupt goverment of Iran we can't export our own saffron and make profit (billions of dollars) and Spain is making billions of dollars by selling Iranian saffron the profit of which belongs to the hardworking iranians like me who have to live in poor condition so a bunch of thieves in Spain and Iran can make profit, next time when you're buying saffron you should remember how corrupt its industry is and actual producers of saffron (the farmers) aren't recieving even ONE PRECENT of the profit they truly deserve.

I ate my first rice with saffron at a friends wedding. The rice looked very yellowish, I was amazed by it, I didn't know saffron was responsible for that coloring back then. But lemme tell ya, it was delicious, it had that light but undescribable flavor, it made even the most plain rice incredible yummy. Literally, I just sat there and ate only the rice. Up to this day I've never encountered anything similiar to that taste/quality ever again. I still remember it, that's how much impact it had and this was 10 years ago.

I have been to Kashmir and all I can say it is heaven on earth!
The saffron fields there are so breathtakingly beautiful and the cost of saffron is also very high but definitely worth it.

Just imagine a world where everything is fair and just.... the farmers grow and profit for their hard work and the consumers get the best quality food.

Being an Indian, (we use saffron in every household) I can't imagine a world without saffron so if for no other reason please help stop this climate change for saffron! It will be a priceless treasure lost, if Kashmir doesn't produce Saffron anymore. That's the only state I trust with this spice. :(

Im From Iran, in our village, we grow saffron every year, but only for our own use and not for sale

notice how they are very careful not to mention what country Kashmir is in, instead describing Kashmir as a region lol

I'm from Iran and we use saffron very often in our food. It's like an essential ingredient for many of traditional foods and it's also used to make rice or tea more fragrant. I'm not sure what's the price in other countries but here even the less fortunate can afford it to some point.

my favorite Indian restaurant in my hometown was named Saffron 🤗🤗🤗 Unfortunately, it closed and broke me heart. But I’ll always have good memories ❤️ I have honestly no idea if they used saffron in their food, but every single thing in the restaurant tasted amazing

My family is from India and saffron is a huge part of our life, my moms saris are saffron colored, saffron is in my favorite desserts and in my favorite dish biryani. Authentic saffron smells so incredible and it makes sugary things taste sweet and flowery like a spice just for sugar. The taste it imparts is unparalleled for sure

Things parents do for us:
When I was a kid my dad used to walk a mile to go to a shop to buy saffron for me so that I can put it in milk and drink. He used to go to that shop because that was the only shop where you could get authentic saffron

My saffron came from Aldi so it is 100% a fake

If you ever get to drink Saffron tea, you can never go back to the normal one. The taste and aroma is just so unique and out of this world. There is no other thing like it. If you garnish it on your sweets, even a little bit, it will change its smell and taste. Its very delicious.

I'm from Iran and even though saffron is expensive it is considered a kitchen staple in many households. It is used in rice recipes and desserts, but I like to use it to treat my depression symptoms. You can brew tea with saffron. I highly recommend it.
