The Marshmallow Test was an experiment conducted by psychologist Walter Mischel in the 1960s. Children were given a choice; either they could have one marshmallow now, or wait and have two marshmallows later.

How could the children's ability to delay gratification with this simple test of willpower predict how their lives would play out?

For those of us with low willpower, there are tricks and techniques which we can all use to improve our self-control.

Your videos are wonderful summaries of interesting concepts, please keep making them! I'm almost certain that with a little persistence your channel will gain popularity.

I think I came across a video that explained that the marshmallow test's results were a matter of correlation and not causation and that the kids that waited didn't have more willpower but didn't have such a strong crave because they were richer and already had more candy whenever they wanted something like that. I am in trouble either way :(

Turns out that all this really tested was the home environment - wealthier, more secure households produced children who were able to believe in promises.

I took the Marshmellow now, then sold it to another child for his $50.

This implies, that religious People, who willfully delay gratification for the afterlife, whatever that means, have the strongest willpower and with that are best suited for hard tasks. Think about that while choosing your next president.

Atheist have been triggered.
