Shadow banning and getting shadowbanned on YouTube - Shadowbanning is when your posts or activity don't show up on a site, but you haven't received an official ban or notification. It's a way to let spammers continue to spam without anyone else in the community (or outside of it) seeing what they do.

The whole concept of shadowbanning is insidious and cowardly. If someone is banned from something, it should be made explicit.

A shadow ban is worse than a normal ban. It's cruel to make a person feel like they are part of the discussion when they aren't. Just ban them and lose the sub instead of being a coward.

I have been banned for years. No notifications. Just YouTube letting me waste time and not allowing me to socialize at all on social media. It's been traumatic not being told. It's so insidious.

That seems wrong, you shouldn't be able to shadow ban without telling someone, it's basically censorship, and then they don't even know. If I got shadowbanned and figured out I'd unsub immediately.

I got shadowbanned for putting timestamps in the comments and describing what happens at that time. The channel owner wanted all viewers to watch the entire 1hr videos including the 30 min sections where he reads out letters from viewers, rather than the interesting bits that everyone was there to see. So he got pissed off that viewers were able to skip the bits they didn't like. Odd attitude, but there you go.

If you have been shadow banned then you should be made aware of it like a notification or something, otherwise time and resources being wasted.

This is a REALLY bad idea, which lets yt censor anyone they don't like, without any accountability. And without letting someone who's wrongfully blocked, know or do anything about it.
It's not even something most content creators are intentionally doing.. Youtube seems to be automatically doing it all over for some reason.
Seems whenever I make comments on political videos, without profanity or links, or even being rude.. Frequently my comments disappear for other users, barely 1 minute after I post them. And I can never figure out what combination of words caused the auto-censor to block me..

I've only just recently realised that I've been shadow banned from a couple of channels that I actually really enjoy watching. It only even occurred to me as a possibility when I realised that there's one channel in particular that I liked to comment on because I love the subject area, and it occurred to me that nobody ever replied to me lol. I'd been spending a little bit of time every few days sharing relevant thoughts, and it turns out I was just talking to myself for god knows how long.

To be transparent, I've been on Youtube since I was a teen, and I've no doubt I've said a fair few dumb, impulsive things in that time; but generally speaking I like to walk away from toxicity, and be constructive when things bother me.

I’m still trying to understand why YouTube shadowbanned me in just ONE WEEK of being a completely new user to YouTube. TRYING to grow my gamer/streamer channel here and before I was even able to get more than 10 subs (following all their rules) - posting only shorts - I was shadowbanned and now every video I post (1/day) gets 0 views (unless I post it in n discord and a few friends watch it).
This is absurd.
How can YouTube say they’re trying to help small channels grow - when they discretely mute small channels with no transparency???

I've been shadow banned from a political streamer that I watch. I like his content but his mods are the most toxic people ever. Funny thing is I have similar political views to this person I probably disagreed with one of mods on some minor thing and got shadowbanned. So stupid.
