Watched Hee Haw when I was a kid, this was one of the best segments because you never knew who it was with their back turned.

Brings back so many memories of sitting with my parents watching Hee Haw, Lawrence Welk and Porter Wagoner.

RIP Archie Campbell, I have said for years that you were comedic gold. You were probably the most underrated funny man in all comedic history. You are very much missed and I still wish some network, any network would pick up Hee Haw and show the reruns of this masterpiece in all it's simplistic genius.

Did this once at a karaoke party. Could not figure out what to sing after a couple of songs and a few drinks so I looked one up on YouTube on the phone.
Brought laughter and memories to the house.

Archie Campbell first performed it live on the Porter Waggoner show in 1969 with two of Waggoner's regular singers. That version was phenomenal. Campbell really took this little ditty to the next level on Hee Haw with the costumes, original lyrics, harmonies, etc. On Hee Haw, it was first performed with Gordie Tapp on a weekly basis. It then morphed into where the guest stars of each episode would be Campbell's foil. Even with all the hilarity, the singing and presence was phenomenal. This compilation was well made.

I loved sitting with family watching Hee Haw on Saturday night. Was lucky to Archie Campbell as a dinner guest at our home one night. He was the cousin of my mom's best friend. He was so down to earth, kind, and had us entertained for hours with stories from the show. A memory I will always treasure.

"When I was younger, my father would tell me,
Do not make faces, or you'll stay that way,
I didn't listen to what he was saying,
That's why my face is like this today...

(Make face and sing)
Where, oh where are you tonight?
Why did you leave me here all alone?
I searched the world over,
and thought I'd found true love,
you met another and PFFT you were gone..."

Still funny! Back when people could sing harmony without auto tune.

This reminds me of weekends spent with my uncle, aunt, and grandmother watching HeeHaw. And my uncle telling stories about going to school with Roy Clark. Simply the best time of my life... Rest in Peace 🕊️ to those who've gone on ahead. 👵☮️🖖
