The Tragic Fate of Boise State Football (CFB Conference Realignment)

Boise State had an incredible run during the 2000s and early 2010s. They were the "BCS Busters," but unfortunately, that never landed them a spot in a Power 5 conference. Today, they relive the glory days when they were the talk of College Football. But clearly, they were ROBBED by the sport.

That game against Oklahoma was the best game I've ever watched, hands down.
The hook and ladder call was more impressive than the statue of liberty call. lol

Long story short: The power conferences are defined by their ability to generate money. Talent has nothing to do with it.

2010 was their year them losing that Nevada game ruined their chances of national championship and getting moved up

I think what gets overlooked is how the Boise program has always been dominant no matter what level they have played at. Their success is not just something that happened around the 2000s. They were the most dominant program in lower level JC football. It’s not like they struck lightning in the 2000s. They are just a smaller school who has excelled at every level of football that they have played As an FBS program they are 272-84. As a football program all-time Since they started playing football in the 1930’s their all-time winning record is 491-168. It’s easy to knock them because they play lesser opponents, but no matter what level they play, they have always dominated the competition. Among all football programs, even the elite top-tier programs, their winning percentage is in the top-10. They deserved to be able to play in the upper tiers of college football more than any other lower-tier program, and even above many of the existing P5/P4 schools that are still in the major conferences. They deserve that respect. They have earned it.

BYU fan here... Boise got screwed. They owned BYU, Utah, and TCU when they were on the same level. From 2002 to about 2014, they were a top 10 program. Went on the road and beat Va tech, Georgia, Oklahoma, TCU, Utah, BYU, and many others. They should be in the Big 12 ahead of Houston.

Boise State is the Gonzaga of football.

A couple notes Dirk Koetter (cutter) is back as our OC this season so the fan base is pretty fired up about that. We have one of, if not the best all around running back(s) in the country. Malachi Nelson may not start since Koetter seems to really like Mad Dog and we did win a 3rd Fiesta Bowl after coach Pete left, and there were a few years since then that we narrowly missed out on a bid to AAC teams so we never fell off completely. Avalos did alot to tarnish our reputation the last 3 years but in Danielson we trust, lets go baby 29 more days!!

I think the 12 team playoff is what CFB needs. It still gives deserving teams like Boise State a chance. A small chance, sure, but it is still a chance.

Great video and filled with 2000’s CFB nostalgia. UCF is another team that built themselves up into a power conference.

This video perfectly explains why I picked Boise state as my first CFB 25 Rebuild and it’s been feeling so right to have the broncos be good again, only took me 2-3 years before we was able to make it to the championship

I think it started going down when Peterson left

My hometown team, that stretch of football in late 2000’s early 2010’s will forever live in my memories, obviously the 2007 fiesta bowl greatest game ever in my opinion. I’ve met Ian Johnson (game winner in that game) a few different times and he is one the nicest dudes ever. Will forever bleed blue and orange 💙🧡

I’m not upset Boise is one of the most winning programs for the past 20 years (I’ve never seen Boise have a losing season) our roster is also stacked this year

That Fiesta Bowl was arguably the best game I've ever watched, but Utah were THE "BCS Buster" not, BSU. 🤷 Did it first, AND did it best. (No other G5 team did anything even remotely as big as absolutely DOMINATING Saban's Alabama basically on the road.)

Boise State is an elite program and got burned big time. They should be a power 5 team but will get there!

The broncos are ready to roll!

It's about time the NCAAF gives Cinderella teams like Boise State, UCF, Cinci, App State, Coastal Carolina, etc. a chance. The prejudice creation of the P5 & G5 ruined college football. It's not even a thought in college basketball, so why do it to football?

What's sad, is my wife who is a BSU alum, and I am an Oregon State alum, realize that we're forever gonna be stuck in the shadow of the hyper-capitalistic oligarchy that is college football and the NCAA. But among the many things that brought us together as a married couple, this was one more thing confirming we were meant to be together. So we are sad to see our schools suffer at the hands of money-grubbing pigs (namely that accursed batch of pond scum down in Eugene), but hey, at least we still enjoy our events and sports holding onto their dignity and integrity for whatever remains of it.

I remember the first time hearing of Boise State and its Statue of Liberty play against Oklahoma. Then, when we moved to Boise, they played that game for Now, they are just caught in a limbo. Blue turf is nice but they need to change or they’ll get left in the dust. Also, Kyle brotzman got destroyed after his miss against Nevada. Fun fact, his dad used to referee youth soccer games
