For the who would you choose to not die, my opinion would be Cedric, I don’t particularly care about him but here’s my reasoning. Sirius and Hedwig died to protect Harry. Remus, Tonks, and Fred died in the Battle of Hogwarts for the good of the world (in addition Tonks and Remus for their new son). Dobby died saving Harry, hermione, Ron, Luna, Ollivander, and Griphook. Dumbledore died from the cursed ring (well snape killed him but you get what I mean), and if Snape hadn’t died, Harry may never had found out the truth which ultimately saved the world. Cedric had just won the tournament, he was an excellent student and person, he could’ve done great things. Logically, he’s the one to be saved.

I think Severus wanted to die. He wanted to die a long time ago after Lily got killed, but was afraid of she will be hateful toward him in afterlife cause he is partially responsible for her death, and only thing that keep him alive is desire to earn forgiveness from her and getting revenge on Pettigrew and Voldemort. After he make sure that it happens he died cause he got what he wanted so now he can be with Lily in afterlife
