The roman-sino ending is the most compelling by far. So much of our history is defined by nomads pouring out of the steppe, both to the west and to the east, and changing the settled people on either side. Contact/cooperation between the 2 sets of settled people would have radically rewritten history.

Wow. Flashbacks. The Goths (ancestor of germans) were distrusted by Rome which led in Rome's downfall by Goth betrayal. In an irony, in WW1, Italy is the one betraying Germany (though helped by convincing threats from the Entente of UK, France and Russia).

And then, at first they trust each another in WW2, Italy's iron-handed ruler was executed and cause Italy to surrender (and betray Germany again!)

Romano-persian ending. After helping Khosraw II become the new king of Persia, Maurice and Khosraw unite the two empires and create a Byzantine-Sassanian Union

The Mussolini ending was actually the most plausible if the axis actually had won the second world war.

Other Endings:

Tamil Ending: The Cholan Tamils invaded the Byzantine Empire in the 10th Century AD before the Ottomans and Seljuks invaded Byzantine Empire. This also caused the Byzantine Empire to fell and the Cholan Tamils to siege the mighty Constantinople, Rome, Athens, Anatolia etc. Now, Samrat Karikala the Great declared that Cholamandalam Empire itself is the third Roman Empire.

Hinduistic Ending: Under the forces of Ashoka the Great, the Mauryan Empire fully annexed the land of the European Greek Seleucid Empire and still continued his expansion towards west (Europe). After the fall of the Mauryan Empire, the western areas which was annexed by Ashoka separated off to form the Chakravartate of Romaka.

Macedonian Ending: Alexander the Great ceased all attacks from the Romans in the west. Then, Macedonian Empire annexed the first lands of the Roman Empire which ended Roman Empire quickly.

Roman-Egyptian Ending: Emperor Julius Ceasar and Queen Cleopatra decided to marry which merges both Ptolematic Kingdom of Egypt and Roman Empire off to form Ptolematic Republic of Rome and Egypt.

Jewish Ending: Overpopulated by Jews, the Roman Empire becomes the Jewish Roman Empire and changed it's religion from Roman Polytheism to Judaism.

what would really have underpinned long term success for the roman empire; antibiotics and better sanitation; measles anthrax and plague hit the romans right when they had peaked, they couldn't innovate and the barbarians overtook them in key technological areas

The Pax-Roman ending is by far the best ending. The other endings after the Byzantine ending exceept the HRE ending all suck.

Aurelian and Pax Romana endings looks like a completely unmanageable bureaucratic hell, given the problems Rome had managing even the territories it had.

I think Dictator Ending and worst ending are switched, Mussolini is the worst ending for empire and Europe, while Dictator Ending is a sad reality for empire.
