They have the most exhausting education system too. Imagine studying all those years just to not get a job because you're not pretty enough.

Lol imagine choosing your plumbers and doctors based on their looks instead of actual qualifications and talents

I wouldn’t survive a day in korea for real, their obsession with outer beauty is insane

Its no wonder South Korea has one of the loneliest most depressed people.

There are many Koreans living in my country Singapore. I can see they are relaxed and happy - no need to wear make up or style their hair everyday 😂

People should face Korea's reality and stop romanticizing it cuz of kdramas and kpop

I live in Korea but I still find it appalling that photos are required on resumes here. It shouldn’t be allowed. It’s blatant discrimination.

As Chinese who has a few Korean friends, i think Koreans in Korea have an invisible wall or maybe society expectations that prevent themselves to be themselves. Having met some Koreans myself they are so free spirited, awesone and easy going, maybe travel a bit then you would have a new vision, find inner peace neighbors, let go of the guard and be free. I have an ugly face but that dont prevent me being cool😂😎

Government should forbid the pictures on the resume. People should be hired based on their skills not their looks

It's refreshing just seeing normal people in South Korea for once - whom actually look natural and authentic. Outside of South Korea a lot of what we are exposed to in the media are extremely attractive women who have clearly had a lot of work done - even on your average Korean Instagram accounts - and we never actually get to see anyone who has enough dignity and integrity to respect their natural selves. The most insane part of it all is, is Korean women - and East Asian women in general - are naturally beautiful conventionally. Therefore, it's refreshing to see not all Koreans have succumbed to this superficial culture of tarnishing what makes them special and, you know, their own person; I can't imagine what the parents must think if they see someone what is effectively mutilating themselves under a veil of artificial beauty. Kudos to all these women you interviewed, they are all beautiful just the way they are - God bless them!

I love watching street interviews because it reminds me that korean people look like us normal folks too rather than the image of them we have in our heads from kdramas and social media

I think the scariest part is how the society eventually internalised the 'looks matter most' idea on a lot of Koreans as well making them not only feel bad on their own looks but they also apply this standard to the others showing obvious favouritism to good-looking people and insult/overlook less attractive people. Jeez

It’s an extremely shallow society, from a Korean 😉

The Korean society highly values looks and superficiality of labels. That’s what happens when you go from a poor agrarian society to a developed one in a few decades; their social values haven’t evolved as fast as the economy and thus still cling to valuing superficiality.

Normalising obsession with outer beauty and the severe bullying in educational institutions scares me.. where is this country heading to...

Well in Taiwan they also have to post photos. HR managers do hire based on looks unfortunately.
