I am so appreciative of the fact that they specifically said he didn't get lucky and talked about all the training he has done to be prepared for this exact situation.

The implementation of the inflation vests has saved so many lives for sure.

I was body surfing in the pacific ocean around 1982. A wave slammed my body to the ocean floor like i was a rag doll. I remember the wave holding me down and my body scraping the ocean floor...my face scraping on shells. I lost sight of up and couldn't see the sun...i swam up as i could and it took forever to get to the top as i gasped for air. The ocean nearly took my life that day...God had other plans. Im thankful to be alive.

Everyone who wears a vest needs to say, "...thanks Uncle Shane..." 🤙

1:55 - the shutting off your mind to accept the beating is the truth. Making yourself ultra relaxed through the worst of it really does work. Can’t imagine the difficulty at Jaws.

“You train to survive the wipeout, you don’t train to…”. That was a GREAT quote! It applies to everything in life. Well done! 🤙🙏

Best back flips gymnastics I have ever seen and on a monster wave. 10 out of 10. This guy deserves a gold medal.

Glad to see this young man is doing ok, I saw the wipeout on another channel but there wasn’t any discussion of if he was all right. His preparation + the vests did exactly what they are supposed to and thankfully his talent will continue to shine for us landlocked surf dreamers!

Santa Cruz surfer here. I have so much respect for Ty. I’m not even *half* as skilled as he is. I was just at Mavericks watching from shore and was amazed. I hope Ty is safe out there. I’d hate for what happened to Mark Foo happen to him. Same for his freediving adventures. I hope he’s careful. I knew Jay Moriarty and he died while freediving.
