BLACK BEAN BROWNIE RECIPE
¾ cup white whole-wheat flour
½ tsp kosher salt
1 tsp baking powder
½ cup cocoa powder, sifted
15 oz can of black beans, drained and rinsed
¾ cup water
¾ cup maple syrup
1 tbsp vanilla extract
½ cup chopped walnuts
¾ cup chocolate chips
A bit of oil to grease cooking pan

CHOCOLATE ICING
1/2 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbsp. coconut oil, melted
1/4 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla extract

Pre heat oven to 350

Coat and 8x8 baking pan with cooking spray and set aside.

In a large bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder, and sifted cocoa powder.

In a blender, combine black beans, water maple syrup and vanilla extract. Blend until everything si combined and the beans are broken down. This will be a very liquid-y mixture.

Pour the bean mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until everything is well combined. Stir in the nuts and the chocolate chips.

Pour mixture into greased pan and pop in the oven for 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the pan comes up clean.

While the brownies are baking, make your icing by simply combining the unsweetened cocoa powder, coconut oil, honey and vanilla in a small bowl. Mix until you have a thick, rich chocolate icing.

Once the brownies have cooled completely, spread the icing all over the top of the brownies.

Cut into 16 squares and enjoy!

Makes 16 brownies.

I made these brownies last. Night, as I had all the ingredients on hand and I love that they are naturally egg free, as my daughter is allergic to eggs. We all loved them so much and I will definitely make these again!

Dani, I made these brownies last weekend for my family and they are absolutely FABULOUS!! But instead of using water in the Vitamix with the black beans I added cold coffee which really boosted the chocolate flavor! Thanks for a terrific recipe!

I love this recipe! Just made it. Instead of maple syrup I used honey (3 tablespoons) and mix of almond and coconut flour ( 1 cup) instead of whole wheat flour. It’s extremely tasty!

I made these & they are delicous. Just a fyi, I ended up cutting them, wrapped each piece in wax paper & stored in my freezer. This way they are ready for me to grab & put it in my work bag to have after my lunch or dinner. They freeze really well.

I just made this. It was delicious. I substituted coconut sugar with regular granulated sugar, but I added half the amount recommended on the recipe and it was delicious. With most online recipe I usually cut the sugar in half. Next time I might add even less sugar. I also added about 2-3 table spoons of milk while blending. The batter was too thick so my blender needed some help. Next time I would probably add less honey in the frosting. Overall I was satisfied with this recipe. My family thought it was delicious. Thanks for sharing and love the enthusiasm.
