The books that I absolutely adore are the ones you often hate and same with the books I don't like are the ones you love. I gave this book a solid five stars and I couldn't put it down!

As for your thing about all the politics and mystery, I loved all the aspects. I didn't consider the politics boggy. I also found Hal an interesting character.

I agree completely. I just DNFed this around 45%. This needed to be just a mysterious Gothic romance...I didn't care about the political aspects, I didn't care about the drama with the queen. I also thought the protag was pretty unlikable and had emotions that made no real sense in context? Idk, the editing team really didn't do the story any favors. There was a lot that could have been caught/fixed/changed and just wasn't.

I´m so glad someone else feels the same way as I do about this book. I wanted to love it so much, but it was profoundly disappointing. It had so much potential, it´s just that it didn´t go anywhere... Even my favourite narrator couldn´t salvage it and that´s saying something :(
