Mapping Layers in Gale Crater for MSL

This is a real-time screen capture of me mapping a marker bed in the lower mound in Gale Crater. I am using the application Crusta built on the Vrui library and running on my MacBookPro laptop. Tony Bernardin developes Crusta and Oliver Kreylos developes Vrui. The data are HiRISE DEMs and images.

Gale Crater is one of the candidate field sites for the NASA rover Curiosity or Mars Science Laboratory. The purpose of this mapping is to correlate beds across the lower mound to see where we might access the best exposures of layers with both clay and sulfate minerals.

The markers at the beginning view are 200 m apart, and the contour interval is 50 m. There is no vertical exageration.
