I was born in 1961. Those old snorkels bring back memories! Great video. Glad you put in the snorkel holders at the end. I help new scuba divers all the time and i hate the hard plastic connectors and heaven forbid the other hard plastic attachment is not on the thick oval shaped snorkel! They are hard to get on the mask and almost impossible to put on the snorkel. They have improved the snorkel so much over the years, you would think the connector would be easier/better.

Love your videos! watched every single one once I discovered them, and for the past few weeks have been waiting for them to come out, and I am happy to watch them every time! I would definitely be interested in seeing your vintage collection! It seems like each video, you find a way to tell a bit of history along with the main point, which I find fascinating.
I know you probably have a lot of tips backlogged, but two tips I personally would not mind seeing are 1.) different air mixes, pros/cons, maybe charts, etc. and 2.) Attachment options. I recently helped out with a "try dive" with a dive center that I do not usually use, and while I was always taught to keep my hoses in, in, IN!, they, even the instructors, let their safe second and gauges hang free, which seems destructive to me, to the equipment banging around in the pool, and especially on reefs in open water. Possibly do a video on magnetic, clip, rubber D rings, buckle, etc attachments for safe seconds, gauges, flashlights, slates, etc.
Thanks, and I look forward to your videos!

I discovered these videos a couple of weeks ago. They are interesting, informative, and entertaining.
Nice work by a guy who has seen enough to tell other people about it.

Thanks Alec for a great video series!!! While I've never gone diving yet, next year I'm going to Jamaica & will dive for the first time. If all goes well, I plan to take my Padi course there too. Your series is full of great info for us first timers!!!!

My first mask was the double snorkel mask I got in 1968, when I was ten. It worked great. Thanks for the memories.

Is there any chance that you would further the review and include the full faced snorkel mask? I am new to snorkeling and I have been reading up on these a little as an option for myself and my children to learn with. Great vid!

Fun fact you may be interested in. A hollow reed or bamboo tube with a primitive one-way valve made of some sort of animal membrane (from their heart, or intestines, it's said) was used by the Ninja of feudal japan to traverse the moats around the castles of the warring states period without being seen by defenders.

Love your videos sir I've made it a point to watch them all I've only recently discovered your channel but I'm glad I did I own a small salvage company as such we're technically not required to be certified to dive the rules are a little different when you do salvage but I follow all the regulations anyway I use a BCD even when it's not required I'm very careful about what I do I very carefully set up my buoyancy so that I have true neutral buoyancy which is my preference. I've been diving since I was a kid but only recently have started to use tanks. For me the primary concern is keeping my guys safe and even though we're not technically required to be certified in order to do our job solvers don't actually require diving certification to dive however I pretty much insist that all my guys get thoroughly trained. I conduct this training myself and did a ton of research before I dive any location to make sure that we know what the dangers are and I thoroughly plan I would have died so it's very safe in addition we generally don't go very deep we're not exploring we just go down do our job and come back up I usually come back up with the vessel itself so I have a giant BCD in terms of the vessel and floating me back to the surface which is why we often don't need them but even still I insist that my guys wear them anybody who's in the water has to be properly equipped I supply the gear just to make sure that they have good gear. I'm planning on having all of my guys watch your video series. In addition I have my own YouTube channel and I post instructional videos there for my crew.

Getting ready to buy new equipment. When you go under water with a snorkel most of the snorkel tube will fill with water. When you clear a snorkel with a purge valve, doesn't most of the force from your breath all go out of the purge valve because it's so close to your mouth? Is there enough force left to push water in the vertical tube up and out of the top of the tube?

Semi dry: a dry snorkel but it’s leaking some times 😂😂 lesson learned

My dry snorkel clip is a little bit loose and if i really do some "harsh stuff" it sometimes falls off, any tips for making it stay better?

Is there anywhere to buy a replacement for the flexible tube on modern snorkels? I've looked but can't seem to find them anywhere. Maybe I just don't know the correct term, but it seems a shame to have to buy a whole new snorkel when all I need is a replacement flex tube.
