A member of the powerful U.S. Foreign Relations Committee worries that anyone who threatens Canada's north will "come after us next".

Republican Senator James Risch also feels Canada aiming to hit NATO spending targets by 2032 is an eternity down the road, adding what reaction president-elect Donald Trump might have to that timeline.

In this Sunday’s episode of ‘The West Block’, Global’s Mercedes Stephenson chats with Risch, as well as Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen.

All the American politicians talk about is the threat from the North, yet what about the threat to Canada from the South?

Canadians and Americans are fine with each other. Politicians from both countries are the problem.

Yeah the reality is most of the drugs, guns and gangster attitude comes out of the US. It's not the other way around

How to secure the boarder with the USA - that's where the focus needs to be. Don't spend anytime discussing how not to do it or how to avoid it. Get it done.

America's threats are also domestic terrorists. I hope political leaders take reports seriously and act immediately.

I'd hate to break it to Americans but Canada is not the U.S and we are much harsher on gun laws and crime. We basically control the border because for years the U.S failed to do so. So, now U.S doesn't fund the Canada U.S border anymore. They make up such crazy lies. But proof and actions show you in the largest business crossing in Canada which resides in Ontario-Detroit border and Canada built the bridge, built the tolls, built the border patrol, and it's all Canadian. U.S doesn't even have anything on their side. It's so sad how bad these lies are and how so many ignorant American's there are in terms of what the Trump administration is saying. Put your money where your mouth is Trump and show some investment into the border and then us Canadians will start to take you seriously. Otherwise, shut up and go away.

I live on the border and daily Canadian military fly over at night. I’m not sure what they are saying is true. I have an issue with Americans polluting our Great Lakes.

These sick rats keep tagging everyone as threats, but they don't know they're the real threats to the world!

NATO aside, Trump aside, Putting less than 2% to national security seems irresponsible. The fact that we committed to it and blatantly scoff at it is embarrassing.

And what about the illegal guns, crack and cocaine that comes into Canada from the US?

Works both ways. Are they also speaking about all the illegals they drove to roxham rd? It’s always the other guy, not them.

I think Canada has as much to be concerned about the U.S. as we do about China or Russia

Why didnt she mention the amount coming across the border IN to Canada when mentioning the numbers going south into the US. There are far more crossing illegally into Canada from the US!

This has a lot to do with our incredibly weak border policies and lack of venting those that come into our country.
This is been a hot topic for quite some time, the federal government must step up, start deporting anyone that poses a security risk or is a criminal. We also need to send back everyone that has completed their temporary assignments whether it’s for school or for employment reasons.

why is it being made to sound as if the boarder is only Canadian and Canada's fault?

Here's some valid rhetoric: "Chief Fordy told the BBC that in 2023, 90% of handguns recovered after violent crimes in Ontario - Canada's most populous province - were traced back to the US. "
