Good review! I'd just like to point out that the Roborock S50 also uses LDS sensor like the D7, but it has no problems with moving the docking station. If you move it then it spends 3-4 seconds looking around and then it auto-updates the new dock location on the saved map.
Also, if you pick it up and move it to another room, and start it there, it will recognize where it is, and show up exactly at that point in the map.
So I don't think the camera system is better for these kind of things. The LDS system is much more accurate overall. It's as you said, just software coding. The LDS takes extremely accurate distance measurements of the entire room, so it will quickly be able to know exactly where it is within the map, as long as you code it properly. :)

Another thing that I like about the Roborock is that you can drive it around manually by using the "go to" function when generating the map that's going to be saved. It doesn't have to perform a complete run in order to generate the map. Hopefully this will be adopted by the Neato team as well. :)

Love our i7+! Does a great job cleaning, it’s quiet, has not gotten stuck anywhere, doesn’t get lost and we love not having to dump the bin!

I have a Neato. It worked well for 6 months, then it stopped charging, disconnected from the Wi-Fi, and dis not light up at all. We had some issues getting a hold of support, but eventually they agreed to fix it. We sent it off to them and they fixed it no charge. They even covered shipping both ways. A robotic vacuum of some sort is a fantastic thing to have, especially when you have two dogs that shed a third dog's worth of hair every day! We fill up two of those dust bins every day

Bought a Neato d4 loved it. Upgraded to d7 love it even more. Bought a second d7 for my basement. They are amazing for Capet. Hardwood and tile are a given. No issues at all 3 months in.

I got the Neato D7 Connected a couple of weeks ago and now also the software update with the possibility to prioritize cleaning zones. I love this little monster. It works perfectly and it really does a great cleaning job.

I’ve owned both and I will say, whatever you buy you will be thrilled either way. What it came down to for me was is the extra $400 worth not cleaning out the bin for the Roomba and the Roomba it was a bit more clunky around furniture in its navigation bumping into things. So I went with the neato. With the zones now available on the neato it comes much closer features wise. With that said, the cleaning base was amazing and so hard to get ride of. To me it came down to price and navigation over auto bin cleaning convenience.

I have tossed around making this purchase for some time but I am glad I did🌼 The fact that I don't have to worry about vacuuming at all makes it worth it. I can schedule times for it to run and which rooms I choose to have it vacuum. Very through and the fact that it goes much slower then you and I would vacuum, It picks up more when it goes slower giving the carpet a better clean.

I got my Roomba 960 last month and i was dumping the bin halfway during every cycle for a week. I didn’t realize how dirty my carpet really was. It definitely was satisfying to see and that’s such a great point you made.

I'm so happy with my neato XV series. I have had it for probably for 3 or four years now. I am so amazed. The suction is extremely good for a robot vaccum, I hear compared to others it is probably the best suction. It literally picks up every square foot of space, especially running it multiple times a week will be sure to get everything. Super solid and robust little robot.

Bought the i7+ a few weeks ago. Brilliant. I never have to deal with dumping out the small bin on the robot or with de-tangling the brush. You can also now specify no-go zones on the Roomba map. In my view the Roomba i7 and S9 robots represent the current state-of-the-art. You'll pay for it, though.

For years I had thought robot vacuums were toys. I was wrong.

Bought a Neato XV Signature Pro Pet & Allergy Robot Vacuum Cleaner in 2015 and was really impressed with it. Just received a Neato D4 with all the new technology. It's great. The original Neato XV is still going strong and will be going to the other smaller house with less pets. Love the size of the dust bin on the D4 for 2 large dogs. Barely ever use the Dyson anymore. Roomba is a quality product also, I just like the "D" shape design for my needs.

We have the Roomba i7 without the jet vacuum, and it’s been superb! It picks up so much pet hair and other dirt/dust! I have a cat and German Shepherd that sheds a lot. Been very happy with this purchase! I can definitely recommend the i7! Had the 690 model previously and although it was a good vacuum, the i7 is far superior IMO!

Roomba's are build so well, I have had my Roomba 560 for 10 years and it is still going strong. I am not sure about the NEATO's longevity but can diffidently vouch for iRobot Roomba!!

I clean at 530pm. No one sleeps down stairs so sound is not an issue. It is still dark so im glad i got the neato. Did not know roomba cant clean in the dark.

Hello Ben...rather than the features am more interested in how does the vacc perform in terms of crude raw suction power....most of the videos online show vaccs picking up large flakes of barley, corn etc.as dust but what about very fine dust covering the house after a windy day???..how is the performance then??

I have had a Neato for almost 4 years. Cleans our main floor at 1100+ sq ft in around 70 mins and never missed a beat. Hands down the best money spent.

Irrespective of the products, the review is topnotch - detailed and just the way how a comparison should be

They need to add the ability to turn off the cliff sensing in the roomba. I have a rug with some dark colored spots, the Roomba thinks it's falling off a cliff and will not clean it. So frustrating.

We returned our Roomba 980 to Costco after only two weeks because of the hassle of emptying the bin which is quite small. We now have a Roomba i7+ and we LOVE IT! In our opinion, the extra cost is worth the money for the automatic bin emptying feature, totally awesome.
One thing you didn’t talk about in your video is the i7’s no go system which works fine. It just involves no go units as opposed to the mapping system. We have no experience with the Neato unit so cannot comment about that.
