I loved the Tiger fish episode. That is one savage looking creature. No way would I swim in those waters.

The sturgeon having his rod screaming out line under that much drag shows how strong giant fish can truly be, pretty sure in a test he did he found that a fish only needs to be 20% of your body weight to pull you under the surface

My Dad and I fished until he passed away, and I haven’t been for ages after, I enjoy River Monsters for the fish that are out there…and it brings that vigor back…A great show of the scary creatures beneath our boats!

I was bass fishing a shallow area of the Willamette River right outside Portland a few years ago. After a few hours of nothing I decided to throw one more cast before heading home. I was using a skirted jig with a paddle tail trailer. I cast out and had only reeled in about 10 feet before I thought that I’d gotten snagged. Then my line started to run fast. I knew that whatever had my line wasn’t a bass. I took my time bringing it in since my leader was just 10lb test and it took 45 minutes to finally get the fish in my hands. It was a 37lb sturgeon. I couldn’t understand why a sturgeon was so shallow or why it took my lure. Then I noticed a half full pack of herring right at the water line leaking the blood and juices into the water. Blew my mind that I landed that sturgeon with the gear I had.

Used to watch this every Saturday on TV at my grandmas house with my dad when it came out. Big reason I love fishing to this day, not catching river monsters like this, but I love hunting for trout/bass in streams, creeks and lakes.

Fishing with my Dad during a ‘Sturgeon Moon’ we released them…there is a Sturgeon Hatchery dedicated to ensuring the species doesn’t die out…some of the Sturgeon we caught had large razor sharp triangular blades along their sides. We stopped fishing for them because of large gashes in our hands and along my Dad’s shins trying to put it back; we had to use oars to pick it up! A very slimy film on their vacuum like mouths…The Fraser Valley with all its flooding caused some sturgeon to be land-locked in the sloughs…I believe the heaviest one caught was 810 lbs!
