EarthCam captured the moment an ominous shelf cloud passed through the downtown Chicago skies. Shelf clouds typically appear as the leading edge of a thunderstorm's outflow or gust front.

Like a giant wave... So many interesting and beautiful patterns in the sky on a rainy or stormy day. That's why I like that kind of weather, I can just look up and relax myself in never ending nature's creativity! We get those kind of days quite often through the year here where I am from, Zagreb - Croatia. In spring and summer, there is almost no week without at least one major weather change, but very rare we experience some dangerous thunderstorms.

Why does it look like Chicago is floating in the sea and drifting away like a ship? The sea current seem to be going in the wrong direction, or is this an illusion becuase it's sped up?
