Im working on a video right now for one of the most popular interview mics ever from EV, which an omni. Seemed odd to me at first then as i dove further into it, it suddenly made a lot of sense. For interviews, omni can save the day. When you cant put the mic in the "right" place and omni just has to be in the ball park for it to work. This video is spot on. Great job!

My comment on the Rode Interview Pro video was a long winded attempt to say that the dynamic pattern was invented as an alternative to omnidirectional specifically to combat feedback in live/amplified settings. Omnidirectional for recording, especially in handheld wave-the-mic-around situations, is a great choice!

I worked for LBC (London uk) and they provided an omni for realism actuality

There ain’t much in it but I recorded at a live event using the cardiod shure lav versus the omni and it made the guest stand out from the loudness around.

Which is why, traditionally, interview mics have been omni.
Nowadays, I see so many people just using a gun mic for everything - or that awful SM7B that's currently stuck in everyone's faces!

I used an AKG D130 for years from the 80s to the 2000s for interviews into my Sony pro Walkman. Which had had some small modification to the mic jack by 'the test room' at work. Sadly the Sony being discontinued is irreparable and the mic got loaned to someone and never returned.

I was taught that when interviewing someone I should hold the mic steady between the two of us and not move it, so the levels stay the same. Doing that with a cardioid would mean we were both outside of the main pick up area.
