LARRY KING: Where did the idea come from?

JESSICA ALBA: It really just came from me wanting this company to exist. I was frustrated with the lack of options on the marketplace. I was frustrated with green washing. I thought that, if I bought a product that was more expensive & had brown packaging or had a leaf on it & said "eco", that it was a better choice. And I then found out that it's the packaging that's eco. It's better for the planet because it's more biodegradable. What's inside & what I'm breathing in, what's on my children's skin, what's on my skin, is actually as toxic as everything else.

KING: Do you remember where that...did it start with a laundry detergent? Where did that...

ALBA: Yes, it started when I was seven months pregnant. My mother was like, "You have to change everything & you have to get baby specific products." And she said, "You have to get this baby laundry detergent." So I washed my clothes & blankets that I got from the baby shower in this detergent and I was like, "Mom, why is it so expensive? It's so little. There's no way this is going to wash enough." And she said, "Trust me, it's the best." And so I tried it & I had an allergic reaction. I started sneezing when I opened the box & then, when I was folding her clothes, I got welts on my hands. And I called her & I was like, "Mom you're crazy. There's no way this is safe for babies." And she was like, "I was just trying to help you. If you don't want my advice, don't ask me."
