How to Sew an Exposed Elastic Waistband

Skip the casing and sew on wide elastic for an exposed elastic waistband. This technique will come in handy for sewing boxers and skirts.

Thanks this will help me restyle some dresses I got from the thrift store where the bottom half fits but not the top, so I’m gonna cut them in half and put a band on the top of the skirt portion!😊

I totally forgot I saved this video! I found some beautiful 1” neon pink elastic with lace on it that I wanted to sew as exposed elastic to peasant sleeves I made and couldn’t find a good Youtube video, until I was looking through my sewing playlist and found this one! I just upcycled a (once favorite) exercise tights and they look better without the bulk! I had to remove the elastic that deteriorated badly (which took longer than the actual sewing) and replaced it with a soft, 2" wide elastic that is even comfier than the previous thin elastic that dug on my waist, plus I didn't have to rebuild or add a waistband. Win! Win! Thank you for this super valuable tutorial--I can look for more bottoms to upcycle :)

I've just discovered your videos! I just completed a skirt with an exposed elastic waistband, and it was so easy b/c of your clear instructions! After many years away from the sewing machine, and loaning it to someone and never getting it back, I have just purchased a new simple sewing machine and loving it! Years ago, I only made simple skirts and dresses, and a few home items, but nothing advanced. Recently, when searching for tutorials for help, I found you! great video, thanks. My skirt is lined....a bit more complicated but both layers are very thin so i hope this technique will work.
