If a little girl from halfway around the world gave me a hug as a total stranger, it would make my entire month. So adorable.

My sister and I are both fluent in Thai, but we don't really look Thai. We were on the London underground going to the airport when a Thai couple came aboard, and it wasn't long until one of them started talking about the other passengers on the carriage. My sister and I just stayed quiet for about an hour until a trendy punk jumped on with the coolest boots I've ever seen. I totally forgot about the Thai couple and blurted out in Thai to my sister, "How frickin' cool are that punk's boots?" To which "the Matrix glitched" and the Thai couple went ashen-faced 😂😂 I bet they were going through what they had said the rest of the journey, lol

The hug was my favorite part.❣ It's amazing how children are so drawn to sweet 'foreigners". I think it's because in that moment, they are learning that although we may look different, we're all just humans.

"Don't worry I wasn't saying anything bad about you"
Ah, the curse of loving languages and visiting China.

Many years ago when Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union, I was in the Kiev airport. I overheard a man talking to one of the employees about me - asking who I was, where was I from, etc. I looked at them both and said, "I speak Russian and can understand you." They were so embarrassed.

I had to learn Cantonese on my own just so I can talk to my in-laws and order food. I learned just enough to make conversations and the people from Hong Kong get shocked when I speak their language. I also speak Spanish, a little Italian, a little Hebrew, a little Japanese and a little Russian. I love learning languages and it's always a pleasure hearing you speak several languages and shocking the natives.

They say you are russian because you fit their stereotypes for russians - tall, strong and light hair.

Our family took a trip to Japan a year ago and it was one of the most amazing trips of my whole life. The people were so sweet and kind. The country was so safe. The juxtaposition between ancient heritage and modern life *chef kisses*

Thanks for your pieces on homeless people in Japan. Nice to see a polyglot with a social conscience.

If I could ask for a superpower I would not ask for the power of flight or to be super strong. I would ask for the power to understand and talk all the languages in the world.

The hug from that young girl brought a tear to my eye two or three in fact, it was as if you just got vindicated for doing what you do so wonderfully with all the people you meet. It was one of the best things I have witnessed on youtube, and the fact that it made you absolutely thrilled too was great to see, even to the slight mock misery of your beloved hubby, HA!.

Ah, yes, people around the world are inherently good people.
I speak English, when I am around someone that does not, I don’t start saying horrible things!
I love how you surprise them, they are always happy and HONORED that you have taken the time, and discipline to honor them.
You are one of the masters🥰

Very inspirational. Everytime I struggle with my Vietnamese classes I watch one of your videos to keep me going. Thank you!

It's a blessing to not be able to hear other persons small talk over the street.

I saw your short about the out-of-order bathroom for the first time and I was wondering "Did I miss a new upload from Oriental Pearl or something?!" and it appears I was just a bit early. Thanks for all your videos - I watch 'em all! Also, I'd love to see more Tommy! I didn't even recognize him earlier in the video until you put your hand on his chest LOL - thanks again for all the videos!!
